LZTYBRN
I'm getting some LEDs soon to light up my amp, and I wanted to have a three-way switch (I think that's the proper term.) Basically I want to be able to control the lights from the front or the back, just like in some hallways or stairways. So my question is, can I do this with regular toggle switches, or do I have to buy special switches designed for this. If I need special switches, where can I get some, and how would I wire them. And if you can just use regular toggle switches, how would you wire that?
Bigballa39213
You just need to get two switches and power from each area. LZTYBRN
I'm not sure what you mean..Care to explain? Toggle switches or 3-way specific switches? And what do you mean by "each area"?
Bigballa39213
regular toggles Quote 98 Chevy Blazer 4 Door Stock Everything The New Setup 1 - Pioneer AVH-P5200DVD 1- Pioneer DEH-80PRS 2 - Blues Audio 5.25 Mids ( On the dash ) 2 - Blues Audio BL8.0C Components ( In the front doors ) 2 - Blues Audio BL8.0 Woofers ( In the rear doors ) 1 - Linear Power 952 ( Dash ) 1 - Linear Power 2202IQ Modified ( Components ) 1 - Linear Power 3002 ( Rear Doors ) 1 - SoundStream XBP-10 Processor 1 - SoundStream BX-20Z 2 - SoundStream DTR1.3400D 4 - RE Audio SX12D4
michigancapri92
have 2 regular switches in the 2 areas you want, run the power wire from the neon lights to both switches and 12v source to both switches. that would be the simplest way, Quote Teamcapri.comThe TeamCapri 1992 Mercury Capri XR22012 FORD EDGE SQ BUILDOld build logMy FeedBack1992 Mercury capri XR2 Hyper LED
LZTYBRN
Hmmmm... Mind explaining a little more? I'm not sure how to get toggle switches to achieve what I'm trying to do.
LZTYBRN
have 2 regular switches in the 2 areas you want, run the power wire from the neon lights to both switches and 12v source to both switches. that would be the simplest way, That's what I was originally thinking, but, in order for the lights to come, both switches have to be on..So let's say the one in the front is turned off, if I'm trying to show it to my friends, I'll have to go to the drivers seat, and turn it on, then turn the one in the back on. Sounds like I'm being lazy, but I just want to do it for the coolness. Edited January 20, 2011 by LZTYBRN
audiofanaticz
Get a 3 way switch You could do it with regular toggles like Twisted said, but the problem you run into then is you have to turn the lights off using the same switch you turned them on with. A 3 way switch will allow you to turn them on at location 1, but turn them off at location 2, or vice versa.
LZTYBRN
I thought that would be the case. Do you know where I could get some 3 way switches?
audiofanaticz
You can probably get 3 way switchs at any local ace store, home depot, lowes, autozone, advance autoparts, etc. And you probably have a choice of traditional toggle 3ways. like this Or rocker 3ways. like this Im sure some will come lighted or not lighted, and maybe different switch covers. for wiring them, they should have directions on the back, but it is very simular to home electriacl, just different ac current instead of dc current like in a car. You will have a jumper wire going from switch 1 to switch 2. then your pos and negs. http://www.homeimprovementweb.com/information/how-to/three-way-switch.htm something for you to get an idea. Id search for a better artical but i got to get to bed, sleeping pill is telling me to hurry up. LOL
