GHOPPOMAN
it sounds like the ecm is "hunting" for an idle. do u hear any vacumn leaks? have u tried cleaning the throttle body and iac solenoid(if it has one)? any check engine light on? last guess would be o2 sensor. LSN2meBoom916
IAC...? Idle Air Control. Could be bad Valve or the sensor. However, there's also: Throttle position sensor (TPS) Idle stop solenoid Idle speed control actuator EGR valve Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) sensor, and PCV valve. GHOPPOMAN
yes iac = idle air control. i know on alot of fords they get grimed up and have a problem adjusting the idle. usually if u clean the solenoid it frees up the movement and fixes the surging. not real sure on the gm though! str86diesel
The first two things I do when a car has problems is check the plugs and change the fuel filter. Usually checking the plugs will tell you if it's a fuel related problem. If the plugs aren't discolored, then I move on to the next times. It could be a sensor, but without plugging into an ODB it's hard to say. Have you checked to make sure you pulley's and belt are ok and that the belt isn't slipping? BassJunkie
Is the isc motor causing it to go irratic? I had a similar problem in my cadillac and I just disconnected the ISC motor because it had a bad gear and they wanted $150 for a new one and the rebuild didn't come with the gear I needed. Also I would try the Throttle Position Sensor, I replaced that on mine too and it kinda cured the problem for a period of time until the ISC motor completely shit itself. Leaks in the vaccum lines also could cause that. Quote 1986 C20 Suburban 9 American Bass XFL 15's B2 M1MKII 14v XS Power Batteries Maxwell Caps Acoustical energy is free. LSN2meBoom916
the bleu one is the idle air control......correct???? Not neccessarily Tim, Technically it could be any old color and I don't have a shot of your motor at hand-if you could post a shot of the blue sensor in question I could prolly ID it for ya. If it's still oem it could be blue or brown, if it's aftermarket it could be grey, black, silver, etc. snap a pic of ur engine bay or the spot ur lookin at the blue sensor. Meanwhile I see if I can dig up some pics of the sensors for ya. Here this one gives a location for a few of the sensors mentioned, im still lookin for pics. http://www.autozone.com/shopping/locsSelect.htm It would be mounted to the side of the throttle body. (if you look at the last link there are schematics) IAC pic.
