Gmc Jimmy 4.3 Exhaust
ptcary replied to NoFearX18's topic in Engine and Performance - Anything for that couple extra horses!
If cost is an issue, take a look at Thrush mufflers, they have 2 styles, a turbo muffler and a welded muffler, I have had both on my PT and the welded one (looks like a flowmaster) sounds very nice and sounds like a stock V8, gets quieter as the rpms increase, so no droning on the highway, smoother sound than flowmaster on a smaller engine. -

Local news said people who went there were not reporting any "big" discounts. -
YES!!!! Now I got another super-build to watch for at least a year! I figured you would be headed for some custom paint, new interior, keep the current amps, new box and new SMD subs in the Tahoe. I wanna see a wall in a brand new lowered, black Range Rover.....and there is a company over there stuffing supercharged chevy V8s into them!.....might limit how many alternators you could do, though!
-
Considering the loudest vehicle I ever sat in was ~6000 watts, (old local Rockford Fosgate demo vehicle with 4 18"s.....and yes I had to get out within 5 minutes).......I am pretty sure I could not sit in either of the Tahoe or Hoopty. Steve, bring it to Austin, and you can get a great vid of me jumping out the passenger window in no time at all, wouldn't even look for the door handle!
-
I say (just for fun) you roll that sucker out to one of those scales where they weigh semi trucks and see what the difference is between a stock Escalade and the Hoopty! Gotta be rough on 25 series tires with that weight? ...yeah I know it's PHAT not FAT! AWESOME job, and you better not be drivin it around without your video camera rolling at all times!

HOLY CRAP! I haven't posted over here in a while, but you know I've been watchin! That must have been a pretty damn good feeling for you taking the Hoopty out on the road. She kinda looks different out in the open. Very nice, though. I can't tell you enough times how inspiring you are with this build, and not just because you let me swipe your design for my mini-build either , it's just incredible! There is absolutely nothing like it anywhere in the world or built by anyone, PERIOD! Congrats on everything so far and I CAN'T WAIT to see what the paint looks like!

Viper 5900....
ptcary replied to ptcary's topic in Security Center - Car/Home Alarms, devices, tactics, tips....
Ok it's done and working! It turns out, that we had two different diagrams from Omega on the same interface! His PT was actually a little different than mine,so two wires were incorrect. I absolutely HAVE to say again, that just cause these new interface adapters are on the market, I still think a pro installer is needed. There is no way that I would have figured out that the wiring diagram was wrong, and Omega was not really helpful. It took us about 3 hours today to get it all functioning, tested and programmed. A local shop quoted me $600 to install one of these with the remote start (which I skipped on mine), so having a friend who knows what he is doing really saved me a whole lot of money. The 5900 was $179 shipped, I added a few sensors, and already had a second 514N siren, so now I have one inside the car, too. For the record, there was no problem with the factory alarm, it is still in place and functions under control of the Viper, I just wanted to have something with more options and flexibility and really wanted the 2 way remote. Thanks for all the advice along the way form you guys! ....now I actually gotta read the manual to see all that this thing can do! -
Viper 5900....
ptcary replied to ptcary's topic in Security Center - Car/Home Alarms, devices, tactics, tips....
Omega lock input green to viper -lock +unlock green Omega unlock blue to viper +lock -unlock blue Omega doorlock violet/white to drivers door lock switch harness (pt cruiser white/green wire in drivers door) Omega data wire violet to OBD plug pin #2 Omega door sense trigger pink/white to viper green door trigger input Omega has power and ground connected with viper power and ground All these connections were made by a installer friend, I don't think he made any changes to his diagram. I am meeting with him tomorrow to see what is wrong. Any ideas? -
Ok, I need some help with my Viper 5900. I used the Omega interface and the interface honked the horn 3 times, so I know it is programmed properly. Viper will arm, but will not lock the doors upon arming, and will not arm the factory alarm upon arming. Viper will lock and unlock all 4 doors each time the ignition is turned on and off. Opening a door/domelight coming on will not set off the Viper, I have not adjusted the shock sensor or tried to set if off with the hood pin switch yet. The harness was soldered together to the Omega by a pro installer, so I only had to make the following connections to the car: Power and ground 12v switched parking light flash power lock wire to the drivers door switch sensors/LED/programming button ....and last connection was the purple data wire to OBD pin #2 Car is a 2003 PT Cruiser with the factory RKE/alarm and immobilizer key, but we did not install the remote start option. Help!

Ok, I gotta post up for all you pro installers. This stuff is not easy! A few days ago I was in the mindset that with a couple of various diagrams, I could install a new Viper 5900 on my PT. It all looked pretty straight forward and I planned on skipping the remote start....so how hard could it be? Now I have had aftermarket alarms in the past, including Viper, but always had them professionally installed. This time around I decided it was time for me to learn how to do this. My PT already has a factory alarm, that has to stay in place due to so many other things that the module controls. So when I read about the adapter kits coming out, I PM'd a friend who used to be an installer about them. He ordered one up and has it installed in his PT running an aftermarket remote kinda like Steve uses in the Hoopty. Its an Omega product. I told him I wanted to use one with a Viper alarm, but not until he was sure it would work on a PT. So I order the 5900, Omega adapter kit, and some extra Viper sensors, (glass and radar). Alarm comes with shock already. In the meantime, my friend emails me a very detailed and color coded diagram to show me where everything goes. I was destroyed! One look at the diagram and my first thought was "I can't do this!" After spending the morning at his place while he explained everything and soldered it all together for me, so now I just have a few wires to connect to the car and will be all set. I feel a lot better now. It is far from just a simple look at the diagrams and hook it up kinda job. He knew exactly which parts could use the same wires and which ones could not, like the sensors, which wires would not be used, and what was specific to the PT Cruiser. Needless to say, had I went about it on my own, it would not have been successful. Thanks to him, I saved a ton of money, and just have a few final connections to make tomorrow, and then programming and setting the sensors. Just wanted to post to say that even with an adapter these things are not easy to install yourself, yes the adapter makes it all easier, but it's not like it's plug and play! So my respect goes out to the pro installers out there!

I am about 1/2 way through installing a 5900 on my PT, will finish it up tomorrow. Are you using an adapter kit (Xpress kit or Omega), or are you wiring it direct? Reason I ask is sometimes if you confuse the adapter while it is programing itself, it will not work and you gotta disconnect it and start over. Also, I think if you are direct wiring it, there is polarity for the locks, (positive or negattive) any chance you might have a wiring issue where the locks are connected to the alarm brain? I am far from an expert. Hopefully Shyne will be able to post and help you out.

Getting Subs To Hit All Notes From 20hz+
ptcary replied to 07sOnAtA sp.ed's topic in Subwoofers / Enclosures
I am guessing you want a flat frequecy response form 20hz up to your crossover point 80hz? The ability of a sub to play all those frequencies well is a tuning issue more than a capability issue. I think most ported boxes peak at about 5 hz higher than their tune. And drop off below the tuning hz. mine is a 38 hz tune, and seems to peak in the low 40's. I am sure some of the experts will chime in here with better answers for you. -
Viper 7900 Vs 5900
ptcary replied to ptcary's topic in Security Center - Car/Home Alarms, devices, tactics, tips....
Will let you know; should have it all completed this weekend. Everything just arrived in the mail yesterday, and my buddy drew up a very detailed diagram. -
I will have to check on the 30 sec part, but maybe some Dream Theater?
