  1. What are the hook up options for this item? Is there a pos/neg/remote wire that needs to be wired in with the amp or where ever you choose to monitor? edit: it looks like droppinhz is the cheapest coming in @ $74.99 + free shipping.
  2. Yeah I re read what I wrote...kinda cringing. Came off as a total ass hat. Oh well, I wasn't trying to be a mega asshole but I somehow managed it soo...yeah. I should have just asked why is it worth the $80 rather then comparing to something manufactured in china. I think I'll place my order tonight or tomorrow... Also at night why the hell is my meter so blinding?
  3. I just sold my old monitor and now I have $100 sitting here. I got pointed to a video on youtube with the vm-1 against some other meter (the one I have, I won't mention brand names) and now I can see why it's worth $80. I really had no idea before and I apologize if that thread came off as trying to start shit, bash SMD. Like I said I wasn't bashing SMD or his products (I own a couple already), I'm thinking of ordering a meter with this $100. 1) Where's the best place to order? Any deals atm? 2) What are the hook up options for this item? Is there a pos/neg/remote wire that needs to be wired in with the amp or where ever you choose to monitor? Thanks
  4. They look great and seem to perform flawlessly, but why the hell is a volt meter $80 retail. I live in Canada and after the conversion it comes close to $92. How can $80 for a volt meter be justified? Either your production costs are way too high or you're over charging people. I wanted one and was willing to pay $30-$40 retail with no issues but as soon as I saw $80 I went and ordered the stinger one off ebay. It works great and is very accurate within 1/10 of a volt. My meter was $22 after shipping and everything and it works perfect, no way should another one be 4x the cost with the same functionality. I was willing to pay nearly twice as much just to have this nice looking meter but when it comes to $100 for a simple voltage meter I believe that's beyond the point where that $100 is better put towards something else for your system. Not trying to hate, just trying to understand. Most of you will say it's better, when really they do the same thing, and both do it exceptionally good. I do understand that most of you will be biased because, well these are the SMD forums. Thanks
  5. I've talked to multiple people who got Zv4 12s while my whole issue was going down. They never had any issues. I have terrible luck.
  6. I was frustrated with the first one and posted on here but I tried to stay calm. Shit happens and I understand that.
  7. Yeah I got shit on by a fair of amount people telling me to go buy goop and glue it. That might be the solution for some but it's not for me. Honestly I know of a lot of companies that would have told me that's it's not covered under warranty and would tell me to glue it. I'll say it again I'm a Sundown fanboy now for sure. When/if my 2000d dies I'm buying a svc 2000d.
  8. So my small story starts with the ordering of an X12 speaker. I ordered it through SSAaudio.com and they also have outstanding c/s. Anyways I placed my order on August 10th and right after the speaker was shipped out I found an excellent Saz 2000d for the great price of $350 shipped. I then wanted to go for the Zv4. I got in contact with Aaron from SSA and he said I could re route the X12 back to them and they'd invoice me the difference, which I did and it went smoothly. Fast forward a month and I have my precious Zv4 12 and I must say it is one badass looking speaker. I had everything ready for it and popped it in my truck and wow I was impressed, coming from two alpine type rs in a prefab I knew I'd see a big difference but oh boy I was in love. Two days later I found 3 or 4 spots where the surround was separating from the frame/basket. I posted on here and Jacob replied within 30 minutes and told me a call tag would be sent and I would be sent a replacement once my speaker got back to NC. I live in western Canada so I drive down to WA to pick everything up. Shit happens I know that so I told them to send it to my WA address and I'd go down and pick it up. It's a 5 hour round trip and costs me $70 bucks in gas, but like I said shit happens and that was no issue. Fast forward another two weeks and I get my replacement Zv4 12 (it is now Thursday October 24th), super excited to get the bass going. I open the box and instantly inspect the surround and it was missing glue again but this time a whole strip about 8 inches in circumference along with two other spots. I emailed them right away and got a response from Brandon who apologized and said everything would be made right. Brandon informed me he was staying late that night (Thursday Oct 24th) and building me a new one and it would be shipped out the next day. He also sent a call tag for the Zv4 I had. Sure enough the speaker was shipped out Friday morning at 7am. Fast forward 7 DAYS LATER (today) and I have my Zv4 12 which is glued perfectly and has no issues. I also got a lanyard, T shirt, and beer koozie. Although this was a lengthy process it was flawless and smooth. Considering I live over 3000 miles away from their shop in NC I couldn't be more pleased with the shipping times and build times. ***For those wondering I was informed that the glue was drying too quick for one of the builders and that is why it was missing glue, the issue has been fixed.*** A special thanks goes out to Jacob, Brandon, and Bryan for providing me with excellent service and communication throughout the process.
  9. Older mechman's that I have used that were 125a at idle did like 100+ hot at idle, OP, does your alt have a small pulley on it? b/c you might need a smaller pulley to get the RPM on the alt up to put something out at idle. Yeah it came with a small pulley on it, but it's not even putting out enough at idle to maintain a charging voltage it just drops right to 12.6-13.0. I was told prior to purchasing I should be 135-140 amps @ 6-700 rpm...lol my stock alt is 130a (probably does that around 2000-2500 rpm) and it put out way more at idle.
  10. Finally got this all sorted out. Josh from mechman is a great guy!
  11. Just letting you know I didn't go "My surround is pealing off, better go complain on the SMD forums". First thing I did was call Sundown and SSA, when I realized they were closed for the weekend I posted on here and Jacob replied and got the process going. I completed my RMA form Friday afternoon and got my RMA # first thing this morning & also had a good conversation with Bryan regarding my situation as I live in Canada. Everything's taken care of. Glad I chose Sundown.
  12. its the new breed of audio... which is why i have retired.. makes no damn sense.. Lol, there could be a recall on your engine and they still won't replace your car. Yeah so far everything is smooth. I was in panic mode on Friday. As long as I get taken care of, I'll be satisfied. I chose Sundown for two reasons, 1) All I hear is great customer service 2) Most people love the products and say they perform well. So far it's everything it's said to be, no complaints.
  13. So I will get a new speaker entirely. That is what I'd like. I filled out an RMA form. How is the shipping taken care of? edit: thanks for the swift reply Jacob, it's much appreciated.
  14. Hey guys, Finally got my Zv4 12 after weeks of waiting from SSA car audio. Don't get me wrong they have been GREAT as far as customer service goes. No complaints there so far. Love this beast of a woofer but only have two days of lightly using it (no alt installed yet so I have it pretty low due to keeping my voltage above 14). And sections of my surround are starting to detatch from the frame. So far it's started in 2 spots, with one spot being completely separated for about 2 inches. For now I've stopped using it completely until this gets sorted out. I would prefer not to fix it myself as before I ordered this subwoofer I asked if this issue had been fixed and was told it was on these forums by "sundownz" ***I AM NOT BLAMING HIM!! I know shit happens!!***. The glue is starting to peel too as you can see in the last picture... Here's the thread for that: http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/190519-has-sundown-fixed-the-issues-with-the-zv4s/ I've sent an email to SSA audio and am awaiting a response. I'm told that all companies that had Zv4s in stock from the factory were told ship back to get bolted on surrounds. Pictures on next post... AN UPDATE: As of now everything is taken care of, Sundown has provided excellent customer service through this whole ordeal regardless of my panicking on Friday afternoon! Thank you Jacob & Bryan.
  15. lololol you serious? buddy of mine has a crown vic with the 4.6 and has a dc power 270xp on it. i never heard his belt make so much as a peep when demoing full tilt with 20k. That's what I'm told. Slipping isn't always audible just look for the black dust on the alt. You sure the crown vic and the F150 engine bay is identical? Like how the belt is set up and routed? If he has ac/doesn't have ac that could change the way it wraps around the alt too. I highly doubt the crown vic and the f150 have identical engine bays and pulley system. Regardless having the 270A for a 2000w amp is overkill anyways...
  16. I have a 2000 f150 and wanted the 270A unit from mechman. Called them and they told me that would be bad for my truck due to the limited belt wrap on the 4.6l/5.4l engines from ford at that time period. They said they've had way less issues with the 240A unit. Saved me $100 and probably a mountain of issues.
  17. Yeah the 240A is $349. Ordering mine tomorrow from Mechman as soon as they return my call to place the order. At least with the 4.6/5.4 they said not to go bigger then 240A as the F150s of that era have terrible belt wrap. Take a look at other engine bays the belt covers 70%+ of the alt pulley in my truck it grazed over the top of it lol...
  18. I could be wrong but running 2 filters at the same time is probably not the best idea...
  19. That'd odd I emailed Bryan from Sundown today and he said 0.2. Maybe he made a typing error and meant 0.12. Who knows... Thanks for the input even though I'm still looking for an exact answer.
