  1. I am not sure if the 150.4 is available anymore, through Sundown anyways. I picked one up last fall for myself and I tried to get another one for a buddy a few weeks ago and I was told by the local dealer it's already been phased out for some reason. You might be able to pick one up through a distributor if they have stock. But, it is a beast. And it makes my sd-2 8's pound.
  2. I have been running them for about a month and I am very impressed with the sound. I listened to alot of fronts and bought these without hearing them. I have no regrets. You won't get a better set for under 300 bucks.
  3. Stephen emailed me and said he has tracking from you guys for the amp, so all is good.
  4. I bought it from Stephen Flemming at Seductive Sounds in Oshawa Ontario (Toronto). I shot him an email last Wednesday (the 10th) and he replied saying he would let me know when he had tracking from you guys. SInce then I haven't heard anything. So, I am guessing it hasn't shipped. The pre-order also had a set of 6.5 CS's and 2 x SD-2 8's which I received in August. I can provide the sales receipt if needed. Maybe the amp got overlooked after the order split shipped. Anyways, if you could you let me know what's happening, that would be great.
  5. Have the 150.4's been shipping out? This was almost 2 weeks ago and I haven't had any solid feedback from the local dealer. I imagine I am in queue for 1 considering I paid the dude up front for it back in May. So, it should eventually show up? Murdoc
  6. Alright cool thanks for the headsup. Should be in Toronto then within a week. I can't wait to get it installed
  7. Surprisingly, the Rodek amp still pounds. That thing is from 1990 and it still produces nice clean sound. If i hadn't preordered/prepaid for the Sundown amp, I would be tempted to find another one to run the 2 x sd2 8's that are waiting to be hooked up. Thanks for the heads up on the xover point when I get the 150.4. I will bump up the xover 80-100. What's ideal for slope? I am still playing with it and I can notice differences in the music between 6 and 24 but what does it actually do? Something about roll off within the music?
  8. I have to say I am impressed with the sound on the Sundown comps. I am still waiting for the SAX 150.4 (is that ever going to come in?) so I hooked them up to a Rodek 280e that I had my closet since the mid 90's. I set it all up using an oscope. I crossed them off at 63 hz with a 12 dB slope using the built in xover on the alpine HU and they sound really good...really clean. The Rodek has 2 channels and pushing around 80-90W per side. I was reluctant to buy them due to alot of positive reviews of the Morel's but damn these sound really nice for the money. I heard alot of speakers in the 100-500.00 range leading up to purchasing and these don't disappoint me. I have had Paradigm loudspeakers in my home theater forever and I can recognize good clean sound reproduction. If I ever get my sundown amp, it will be interesting to see how these sound with some real power added to them. Murdoc
  9. He's correct on that point. I live in southwestern Ontario and the price that retailers charge for the accessories up here is insane. I settled on everything I needed to do my install and ordered it from Knukonceptz. I did my entire car including big 3, amp install kit, speakers and distribution block for 200 bucks. Locally it would have cost 4-500.
  10. Yes, very true. I am assuming he has that covered since he was asking about amp and sub(s) only. I budgeted for $1200 for my system build and ended up at 2K by the time I had all the extra's that I didn't account for.
  11. if 400.00 was my target for an amp and sub(s) and I wanted Sundown, I would have a look at the E series subs and those new (soon to be released) SAE amps. You could probably get a couple E8's or E10's (or even a single SD-2) and a SAE 600D and be under $400. Not saying this is the only option but if i had limited funds I would look at this combo...
  12. I am not sure what's up with these sketchup diagrams on Sundown's site. It's the same cutout sheet for the E8, SD-2 8 and the SA8. Maybe these diagrams are just giving a general idea but i am sure they each require different specs to run effectively. I built my first box (first one ever) a few weeks ago for a couple of SD-2 8's i have on order and I just used a combo of youtube, forum posts and torres. There's alot of info out there for box building...even for specific drivers like the E8's.
  13. While I wait for my stuff to show up, I am tackling the box. I have played with the dims and came up with a 1.24 cuft before displacement (18.5"wide x 8"deep x 14.5"tall) using 3/4" 17 ply baltic birch. Will these dims work alright for a sealed box for the two 8's? I have the sheet but I haven't ripped it yet. Just thought I would get some input before I make the cuts. 18-20" wide is about all I have to play with. The wife wants to be able to put groceries in the trunk still. BTW, I did check the "box spec & cut sheet" on Sundown's site but it's a 3.5 cuft ported box. It's actually the same box as shown for the dual SA-8 and the dual E8. These SD-2's are designed with sealed in mind so I figured there would be a specific box spec for it that could be downloaded and followed. Guess not. Murdoc
  14. I ended up pulling the trigger on two SD-2 8's. Unfortunately the 125.4 I was going to power them off isn't available now (being replaced by a 150.4) and it's around a month wait. So, I guess I have time to build a quality box. Any suggestions? I downloaded Google Sketchup and the build sheet off the Sundown site but it shows a ported box. I prefer to stick with the smaller sealed enclosure. And how about the type of wood to use? I did a search of the forums and people say either MDF or Baltic Birch. I used MDF in the past but never considered an exotic wood like birch. Does it produce a better sound? better "punch"? Price really isn't a concern. I called around today and a 5x5 sheet of BB is 50 bucks and a 4x8 sheet of MDF is 40 bucks (but I probably will only use half anyways).
  15. It does say alot for you (the owner) to be passionate about your product and provide feedback. Judging is actually the one thing I can't do. I am not able to hear them so I am relying completely on people that have/had them installed. The closest dealer, Seductive Sounds, is 4 hrs away. Stephen has been great and provided tons of info and I realize there are so many factors that have an impact on the sound (ie amplifier, car interior, music genre etc) that it's impossible to make a decision based solely on opinions. I guess I just have to make a decision and go with it.
  16. Fair enough. Thanks for the feedback. I am just trying to get my head around it.
  17. The main theme of my post was the tweeters but how does the mid bass compare between the neo's and the component drivers? Would i get more mid out of the neo's? I was talking to a guy that is running the HAT tweeters with the Neo 6.5's and says the combo rocks. The only issue is trying to find a set of tweeters with passive xo'ers.
  18. I have tried searching the forum for reviews and there is a mixed bag for feedback. Most reviews say the component set is decent. The midbass drivers perform really well but the tweeter is mediocre. I mentioned in another post that I am going to get the SAX125.4 with a couple of 8's on the rear. Am i going to get a good sound environment running the 6.5CS on the front stage? Or would i be better off spending an extra 100-150.00 on something like a tempo 6 or unity 6.5 or ID 6.5? Another option i was presented was getting the Neopro 6.5's and buying a tweeter/XO separate. Anyone try this approach? Murdoc
  19. I have done alot of research on Sundown amps lately...trying to nail one down for my build. Everything I have seen indicates this amp is "the shit". I wish I could get my hands on one.
  20. space in the trunk of my civic sedan is limited. a large ported box isn't going to work. i based my decision to go with the sealed 8 based on that video that Jacob posted on youtube....the one where he runs two 8's sealed in the back of that VW in a box that is .5 to 1.0 cube and that is perfect. i actually emailed him and asked what config is best to run bridged off that amp and his response was two 8 sd-2's. i know there's alot of experienced guys here and i value all the input that is offered. i figured since he designs this stuff i would see what his opinion was. it's really cool that the owner of Sundown takes time to respond to customer emails. i think i am just going to do the two 8's and run them sealed with ~.5 cube each. i got a wack more back in taxes than expected so the second sub is doable now. murdoc
  21. I am going to do the sealed sd. I do agree the box is just as important to the sound as the hardware. I will do it properly. I see Sundown has the build sheets on their site plus there's tons of info on the forums and youtube. Apparently there's a month backorder on the SAX 125.4 so I have some time to kill and research the box. Is there any word on 6.5 coax? I see on Sundown's facebook the post for the prototypes back in March. Anyone heard a timeline on when they will be available?
  22. Alright, thanks for all the input. I saw it in the manual and wondered if it was plausible. But I don't see anyone running that kind of set up. I looked at the e8 v3's and running 1 or 2 of those but the impression i get is the sd-2 provides better sound, even though i can buy 2 e8's for the cost of 1 sd2. I'll probably go for the sd2 8 with front stage (and rear fill off the deck for now). and if i want to add another sd2 8 (with a mono amp) next year it would leave the door open for that.
  23. Alright, thanks. One other question...I am flirting with rear fill with another set of SA6.5's. I was just going to run it off the deck but the Sundown owners manual shows a 5 speaker setup for that amp? Running the 8 d4 sub bridged and still run rear fill off the same channel? Is that doable?
  24. I want to bridge a single 8 off the rear channels of a SAX 125.4 and run SA 6.5's up front. (the HU is a kenwood x997) From everything I have seen and read online, the sealed SD-2 would be the better choice but I thought I would see if anyone had any input. I was told 2 x SD-2 8's would be the best Wow factor for this setup but a 2nd sub isn't in the budget right now. I like bass but I am not going for SPL's. I just want it to pound and sound good all around with rock, hiphop and trance. I have seen lots of youtube with both setups but it's really hard to tell from somebody's phone which one sounds better. And hearing either setup live isn't going to happen up here in Ontario. There's 1 dealer and he is 4 hours away. Any thoughts for or against either sub would be cool.
