Ya if a diode failed in the rectifier your alts not gonna think it needs the output voltage required.
If it was a voltage regulator that failed im pretty sure it would just over charge.
Atleast to my knowledge the rectifier is what regulates the output voltage from being to low
and the voltage regulator regulates the voltage from going to high.
Someone correct me if im wrong.

Hmm sounds like the issue is getting worse. Something may be failing or starting to wear on the alternator. Not sure man its been a ongoing battle with me also.

Is it when its hot only? Mine cold starts up around 14.6-14.7V Cold but when its hot it drops down to 12.9-13.3V @ idle.
When mines hot i can rev a 100 rpms and it jumps to 13.6-13.8V (hot)

Yeah I can relate my idle voltage is around resting voltage (12.9-13.3V) when its real hot. Now I think I have a bearing going out, lol.
