  1. i got called out pulling into a mickey d's drivethru playing that drake song "unstopable" like silly low...like low enough to hear the guy from across the lot go "your subs aint shit" (if you heard the song, i dont think it drops under 80hz...its sweet for midbass) so he asked what i had, i said a few 8's, he said to bump em, so i played something with bass at full volume, and he just walked back to his car and wouldnt show me what he had...sucks getting shut down by some kid with 8's i guess
  2. those look really familiar....and if they are what i think they are i wouldnt give em much more than like 200wrms apiece sooo go out, get a decent 4g kit and a nice ~1000wrms amp, which i'm sure everyone will give suggestions for as far as the speakers, throw em in the hole, hook up the wires from the last one, and run em off the deck and also, imo, you shouldnt be messing with near 3kw if you have to ask what kind of wire to use, that much power is something serious and you dont realize the headache you're getting yourself into trying to support that kind of draw.
  3. Ok, to clear things up, entrance fee is 35$ and you get 2 runs through a CALIBRATED AC mic. This is especially good if you are trying to decide who among you and your friends is loudest since 2db louder is 2db louder regardless of mics (so long as they are calibrated right and arent being maxed out) street battle is the same thing, 35$ entrance fee, you call someone out and go bumper to bumper, crowd decides whose is best. If you want to compete plan on showing up between 10 and 11am since it takes quite a while to get everyone through the meter. It is all class based and as far as i know there will be trophies and possibly prizes.
  4. bagged birds, i was looking at yours like "ew, shit, ugly, hackjob, oh my god amazing" finished up it looks awesome, everything else looked like poop but mine is ghetto rigged in my ashtray for now until i get around to cutting a sheet of abs to make it look pretty, it just happens to clip into the ashtray slot like perfect, just has a gap on each side(and i can close it at night, that thing is friggin bright!)
  5. band iron zipscrewed to the rear deck, then screwed into the box ghetto but it works...i wouldnt suggest screwing into the metal, most cars have a gastank thereabouts or if you wanna go all out, take the carpet out, lay it on 1/2 inch plywood, trace it, cut it out, staple/glue the carpet on, and then screw the box to that (which is what i did, and never had an issue again)

    Help! Asap!

.5 ohm is never safe, regardless of what some people might say possible yes, but safe to be used on all sorts of music in all sorts of weather and conditions and times and volumes for long periods? no but those koles are horrible...at this point they rip off alpine mrp amps, rockford power amps, hifonics brutus amps, and rate their amps at 3-4 times what they actually do...run the crunches at 2ohms until you can afford 2 more
  7. honestly, biggest alt that fits, optima or hc1400 or something under the hood, and a d3100/khc2400 in the rear i'd rather not have to worry at all....if you think "eh its probably enough" its probably not
  8. i know its not micro, but ive been using this thing forever and it takes a beating and a half, and a tank of propane lasts me friggin forever, and its self lighting and all that cool stuff i think it was like 24 bux at the home dept...and it doubles as a hotdog cooker for those late nights installing
  9. wow, it takes some balls to stick your finger in a spinning table saw im sold and 60 bux is sooooo worth it....shit, the paint to cover the bloodsplatter on the wall would cost more
  10. thanks alot for the offer rob, it shows a lot that you're willing to help out like that buuuttt i called stinger this morning and made a stink about how badly this was handled (stinger doesnt make alts, some guy in florida is commissioned to do it, so i order stinger, stinger sends the order to this guy, who makes them, tests them, paints badges packs and ships them to me....so this is who i was directed to for warantee/questions, not my rep) so i'm hoping this guy sends me the friggin parts on the quick, cuz its some bullshit and stinger 0g ring terminals suck too, lol
  11. the idler i'm just getting from napa since i needed it yesterday (and they give me stuff like 1/2 of retail and no tax, so yay) the plug i'd rather just make
  12. yea infinity is usually crossed over much lower than rf tho, it may sound funky, but shouldnt damage anything key word is may....it may be perfectly fine
  13. the 2ohm jbl powers are beasts i love the sound, nothing can touch the midbass, and they can take like 150rms all day, so 90 wont even phase them (so long as you're not clipping it and have a decent hpf setting)
  14. yes, overpowering on a clean signal could be safer than an underpowerd clipped signal no, thats not 100% always right (you can feed pure square wave at 10 watts to a btl till the cows come home and never get it warm, while a kenwood will blow with 100 watts over rms for about 5 minutes) but in general, yes, a little extra power is safer than clipping
  15. there WAS a wiring bit on thhe stock plug that turned that stupid light off, but it was sent back with the alt and now its back on i wouldnt care, but this is a really good customer so what bugs him bugs me and I dont want lights and service messages on in that truck forever
  16. thats nice david, but i need the freeish alternative, I dont mind giving the kid a wire or a resistor or something, but I cant just throw in an MLA complimentary like, you know?
  17. We installed a stinger dual alt for a customer of ours (05 tahoe), long story short it broke, we took everything they gave us out and shipped it back for warantee, the guy sent us back just the alts (no belt/harness/idler/0g charging jumper we made/bolts/etc). we bought a new belt, we're waiting on him to give us a part number for the idler pully (making this like 100$ more than it should have been), but the harness is gone. There is a yellowish (maybe tan, maybe was white, idk, its dirty) and a brown wire going into a small 2 pin plug for the stock alt. the alts right now get ignition from the acc fuse in the fusebox (as per stinger's instructions) The stock little clip is unused and had a jumper/cap from stinger, but idk what it was (resister, wire, diode, etc) and its lost at stinger somewhere... How do I get rid of this battery idiot light and "check charging system" message?
  18. you let out all the magic smoke! i hope you caught it all in a jar or you'll never get it back in.
  19. floor is mdf covered in vinyl, amp rack is 2 2x4 mounted vertically with mdf screwed to it, and the amp screwed to that, and then a pretty panel wrapped in vinyl stood off same thing, just with plexi and lights
  20. 1 15 should be a bit more area doesnt matter at all though...cone area is volume, not lows...i've seen 2 18's that cant play under 55hz...its all in the box
  21. build a good box tuned low and the 10's will get as low as the 15...or even 18's for that matter its all in the box
  22. if you guys are using the headphone jack aux in things, its a matter of the internal amps being different (try an archos sometime, it'll blow you away with the headphone volume and clarity compared to an ipod) if its usb, the amp still comes into play afaik, i think it just sends audio through some of the pins of the connector (eq settings through usb still work, so the ipod is decoding the file, sending it through eq, and transmitting audio through the cable, not data. so the internal amp would make a difference in volume between models)
  23. when a song is recorded, it has a certain gain setting. albums like pink floyd's the wall are something like 13-17db quiter than say metallica's one. when a song is compressed to mp3, its overall gain is usually increased due to the compression process. programs like itunes will automatically reset the gains to an appropriate level when importing them(you'll see it call it "adjusting volume" or something), but files out there can vary a whole lot (something like 26db from loudest to quietest from what I've read on compression)
  24. If you are already a customer you should be getting a flier in the mail soon, but Avenue Sound is putting on it's annual Battle of the Boom event. An AC mic will be around for spl (registration required, will edit later with prices and info), show cars, product reps, head to head soundoffs, raffles, prizes, and a huge sale will all be going on. If you've been to the other ones you know what to expect, its not huge but there's always some cool stuff and a lot of fun going on. So whether you want to get an idea of what your car is hitting, see some crazy demo vehicles, or just want some BOGO subwoofer deals, head down. Its easy to find, right where Rt 112 hits Montauk highway in Patchogue.
  25. personally, spec and feature wise, those things look pretty good, and i'm not sure what set I heard but i clearly remember those tweeters with the cursive "a" on them
