What is he looking at amp wise so we have some idea as to power handling. Sounds like the best advice would be to tell him to save a little longer but to each his on. Those subs don't look to impressive though. I'm not a big fan of all the plastic on the motor

As mentioned above the btl would need more juice. The idea of the aq2200 and the btl sounds like a good one but if you want to go with dat1000 the 3 12's would be the better choice.

Most people at Best buy have no idea. That being said, yes ported is usually considerably louder. I wouldn't go with the prefab boxes from the site you listed because those boxes aren't made with your specific sub in mind. They are made to try to accommodate a large variety of subs and its usually not very good. You'll be much better off building your own or having someone else build you a custom box. There are several skilled box designers on here that would probably be more than happy to design you some box plans. may cost a little more but it will be completely worth it in the end.

x2 No offense but it doesn't sound like you have very much experience with this stuff. I wouldn't go with that kinda power til you got some installs and trial and error under your belt. And welcome to the forum.

Yea thats all I had to do. I think mine is an extra $15 or so a month for $1500 of coverage. I've had my stuff stolen before and didn't have insurance so it is well worth it to me.

Yea I had to notify mine when I added a new deck a few months ago

I would take the ssd or sdc2.5 over the alpine sub. Also look into some of the lower lvl dc sounds subs. Is a 12 as big as you're willing to go?
