  1. That poor TPI Oscope thing probably wants to die from bouncing around back there lol. Looks nice!
  2. How much power are you going to be running to these subs? And I'm by no means a box design master but I'm getting 5.51cft before displacement. Of course that's not considering what you're using for wood/bracing etc. Also I believe displacement of the driver and ports would consume more volume that 1/2 a cube.
  3. Honestly I would stick with the 6x8. I had T1 Fosgate components in my 01 Expedtion and built rings out of MDF. They sounded great but getting a tight seal is hard so the midbass lacked. I instead got T1 6x8s and the midbass is great and highs are wonderful. In your case of not running an amplifier I think changing out to 6.5" you would really miss the midbass that a 6x8 could provide and you don't need to do any building or modifying.
  4. "Fine" is relative buddy. At least butt connect or tape off the open lead so you don't kill your remote lead for good! Lol
  5. What the guy above said. Some head units will just kick into protect when something like that happens.
  6. Thanks for the ideas guys. I've sent quite a few emails in the last month but understandably the volume of emails they get it sends an autoreply saying that it will take them a while to send a reply so unfortunately I haven't heard back.
  7. Just tried to place an order for two BTL 18" recones but the site will not allow me to place the order via PayPal, it throws some weird error. Hoping Scott'll see this and let me know what to do!
  8. What dude with the Blazer and L7's said is accurate in my opinion. I have had my RF T4k mounted on my box for 11 months to be exact powering 2 BTL 18's and have ZERO problems. I think what to be considered are these things: 1) Is it a quality made amp? Around the lines of say Fosgate and the like compared to something like Sony etc. Reason being is quality behind the manufacturing and production of the Amplifier and how the internals are soldered, bolted and placed. Obviously if the amp is of lower quality one would assume that the time taken to solder, bolt etc is not as great as in a higher quality amp thus vibration = rape at a higher rate if lower quality. 2) Is the Box made properly? If the box is properly made and reinforced your box SHOULD have ZERO flex in which case it doesn't matter if your Amplifier is on the box, on your back seat or on the floor. In my opinion on the box would be the BEST situation if it is mounted properly. Reason being if you think about it your box should either A) Be bolted or secured down to prohibit movement or It weighs a shit ton so the likelyhood of it getting movement is low. Think about how many people have their amp mounted to back seats(Meade), floors(Meade) etc. This to me would vibrate MORE than on a box that has no flex. Perfect example that everyone would associate with is Meade's truck... The mofo has them mounted in every form possible other than on the damned roof... He has them on his back seats, on his box AND on the floor under his box... Does he have problems with 30k? All in all I am a Best Buy Autotech and mount Amps on prefab boxes all the time if spaces requires or customer requests. I also mount them on the back seats or floor usually for a nice clean look and to eliminate the risk of the box+amp bouncing around and pulling a ground or damaging wiring. In my experience I do NOT have any more problems with customers returning with amp issues on one or the other. If anything its on Amps mounted on the backs of seats in a trunk because people are smart enough not to put anything near the sub but LOVE to pile up laundry, dog beds, supplies and random other bullshit right ontop of the amp and of course the bastards gonna get hot.... In closing: BUY GEWD AMP, BUILD GEWD BAWX, SCREW IN WITH BIIIIIIG SCREW MAKE SURE NO SHAKEY SHAKEY Fin
  9. No joke I had this same situation happen to me the other day. I was trying to isolate a problem with my PCM and disconnected my main battery harness as well as side terminals that run to my rear batteries. Only positives that are running to the back are my positives from Alt to rear battery.... Next thing you know with main battery harness disconnected I have lights.... So to clarify you only have one battery up front that is connected by factory harness and no capacitors or extra batteries anywhere else located in the car?
  10. Hey not like I'm an expert but did you set your gains using a MM? Just from the video when the low notes hit it sounds like your getting a LOT of over excursion. Could also be the box or a multitude of things... But those subs sounded like they were stretching way too far.
  11. Ok so I finally got around to putting my shiz together on Saturday(Got the subs on Thursday was killing me having them laying around as the final piece). And as far as quality of product goes.... HOLY HELL THESE THINGS BANG! People would say that these things sound quality was excellent for an 18" and I was sceptical.... However I must say that they handle excellently. I'm powering them via a RF T4k, 3 PM D3100, MechMan Alt, and Knu1/0 throughout.... And honestly nobody has been able to sit in my truck with it on 25 of 45 volume and bass knob up no bass boost and gain halfway.... The things just slam! I know a guy with 3 13" W7's and talked smack saying something that only costs $500 per sub(He paid $1,000 for each W7 not too long ago :01nocomment8so: ) has to be of inferior make or meterials and put it this way... I stomped the ever living shit out of his W7's! :hairtrick: In total Fi Car Audio sale team's customer service is excellent and taboot their product is outstanding! Can't wait to be like a baby Meade and buy two more of them bad boys!
  12. So I ordered my 2 Fi BTL 18"s Dual 2 Ohm with fully loaded options on 4/3/09 it is now the 18th.... So I figured I would contact Fi to see what was going on to see as why the subs were taking so long to be built (They bill the shipping shortly after the subs are ordered then the information is updated on UPS tracking when the subs are actually shipped.) so seeing as they were not shipped yet I shot an e-mail to them. So not even 5 hours later I receive this reply! Your subs were finsihed today, but we are waiting on delivery of the back ordered rubber magnet boots from our vendor. They have a UPS delivery date of Tuesday on our AM drop off. We will get them on the subs and out on our PM pick up. If you let me know your shirt size I will get a couple of them out to you for your patience. Thanks, Nicole Fi Car Audio In my opinion this is great Customer Service whereas it was out of their control not having the rubber magnet boots in stock, yet they still will accomodate me for my time waiting. All I expected was some information regarding my subs and I get some free shirts! Awesome Customer Service just thought I'd give a heads up to those looking into Fi! Now I can't wait to get the subs and thump them hard!
