Thats right Bill this cone is not concave friendly, it maybe with a very very high price tag sure. But then it would be referred to as a typical composite cone and we dont want that. For a company to do something that is not currently seen by consumers is what will set that company apart. You all agree it does look good, and believe it or not that sometimes sells product. One thing i noticed with this 1st one is just watching it move looks so different then a regular sub. Sounded good to off 800 watts. Maybe i will free air it here soon and get a vid for you guys, how does that sound? As for recones any DC sub with a 3" coil could be reconed with this cone assembly once its in production.

this was a 12" swap. that has something to do with yes obviously on little power the sub more designed for it will win. Lv5 isnt the most efficient sub out there, it likes power very much.

Then buy 15s and throw in a wheelchair.

Yes this is a great idea, we have been doing this for years now in Canada. Although i didnt do it with my 11k2ds last year but thats because i didnt need the extra power.

that is my concern aswell. If you only have 1000 watts per driver buy lv4s. If you want to go big then get new amps. Do not run the amps you have now on a lv5, and i can tell you from a recent test on about 2000 watts the XL is 0.9 dB louder then a lv5. So with 1000 watts you will actually be louder with a lv4 over a lv5 by alot. But i say buy the lv5s and pick up a monster amp, or amps.

That is a pointless test especially in this situation. We all know concave gives the paper cone its strength this is not news to anyone. We also know flat flat paper cone wouldnt last more then 3 seconds before it folds under low power. This is why for a flat cone you wouldnt even consider using a paper material especially of the same weight or thickness. And this is why we are using the material that we are, because even though its flat it carries much more rigidity then a concave paper cone. I wish i could send you all a sample and you can see how much it flexes compared to a standard cone, truth is it doesnt flex.

Exactly!!! We have looked into all the issues people have brought up so far, and even added a few other things extra not mentioned. I will be doing real world tests on this sub aswell testing it once again once the proper parts arrive. So you can all sit tight and speculate to yourselves until you see my tests.

I used to run DD the question is why did i switch to DC? I have had much better results with DC and so have my customers. I to am like you i build systems to play music. I would like to think i have done a pretty decent job with my truck it never demos under a 160. If all goes aswell as we hope my truck should see 166 or close to it just in sub improvements.

This is true and has been addressed. You guys all worry to much wait for the test results.

Both ways require the same steps and no extra work. Regular recone you glue in the soft parts shim your coil wait to dry then glue on a dustcap. Consider this flat cone a dustcap. Same basic principle. Now you are just digging for every excuse to argue your opinion. no benefit, no benefit yes yes we get it already no benefit......... that you can see. Its obvious you are not interested in seeing this sub work out, and have no intentions of approving to it, or DC in general from what you posted in this thread. I dont expect you will ever have anything positive to add here.

Well lets wait for the test results. This may be a few weeks or more away with the holiday season approaching. I will let you know that the test will be fair and 100% legit. For the most part it will be DC vs DC so it cant lose. Like i said may take a reference from a DD 99Z 18 just to see how it compares. Of course these cones will be more then a paper cone made in China. US built in house for now until you start to build them for us. haha I know you are hell bent about the design being weaker, this is true for the most part, but what if the design of the flat design is not flat at all? If that makes any sense? And i have a PPI cone here, i know how they attached them and the strength and there is no question why it didnt work out in high power applications. I told you we are not going into this blind. Just try to refrain from arguing and labeling it a failure until i test it. And again the production assembly will be much better then this first sub i am testing, i would bet atleast 0.5 dB louder with the added secrets.

So what i understand you saying is this, the design is poor, thus no matter how strong the flat cone is it will not = that of a conventional paper cone? Or are you saying that if a high quality material is used the flat cone is or could be better then paper? I hate seeing you post this info based on what OTHERS have done and used. As for the cost these cones will be less money then composite cones offered by other companies, not to mention stronger. You are going ot have to believe the people who have seen this in person, trust me on this one ok.

Yes i believe i already made a statement about the misconception about the cone area. Im curious Tom what do you think this cone is made out of? Why do yo u think it will be weaker then a paper? You have not even seen the material yet you have no way of making claims that this cone based on shape alone will fail. As for the former joint on this first sub i will not post any pics of it, because like i said this is not built the way it is going to be for production. All i see is alot of very quick conclusions based on what other companies have done years ago. I appreciate your concerns but we are not going into this blind. Just be patient you will see the benefits of this cone post on my states page in 2010. And on a side note you come into the DC forum what do you expect to find? Shouldnt be a shock that the people posting use and like DC products. Infact i wouldnt use them if i didnt think they had the best sub for my needs, and dont tell me they havent been working out for me.

If we test a DD 99Z 18" vs this DC XL 15" with the flat cone and it comes even close to the same score what would you think? Im just curious. I personally dont expect the XL to be as loud for obvious reasons but still. The test will be done in a extreme vehicle. No better test then that, where everything is controlled, and far more consistent. what would be a respectable score with out sub failure? Lets not forget the XL is still a streetbeat designed sub dont expect 180s for it lol.

You seem to be jumping to some quick conclusions, i feel the misinformation is being spread by you. You are correct about the cone shape making it strong, but i will tell you this, the cone we are testing out here although flat has much more strength then a paper cone. After all i am not completely stupid. It wouldnt make much sense to "upgrade" to something not as strong. This first sub we did the cone on is only for first tests, and not the finished product, not that the former cone connection is ugly. The parts for this will be machined very shortly, and again once we have actual production assemblies made i will be testing them vs paper once again. On that note i have yet to put this to the test, you will have to wait a bit. We will see if we can get a single XL 15 over the 178 mark. Nut hug that.

The plow didnt push any snow infront of the door, they did a great job. The snow came from the ruff as you americans would call it. It kept sliding down the slope and piling up where you see it. And ya what you see Rusty shoveling is about all he did before i took over.

Well i had to post these pics. I went down to DC headquarters and everyone at home in Canada kept making comments about how nice of weather we were probably having in Nevada. Turns out it was only a slight bit warmer here then in Alberta.
