  1. If you hit FN there should be a key that looks like it has a picture of a monitor on it. Hit FN and press that key twice. I forget what it is on the satalites (they're REALLY bad laptops), but that should cycle the screen and get it back on. Other than that, try doing automatic updates, or a bios update. Or you could just shut it down instead of putting it in sleep mode. Usually bios updates fix sleep mode issues.
  2. How high do you want it to play? It shouldnt be set higher than 100hz MAX on the crossover. Maybe you just need some better midbass drivers?
  3. That might not be "real" fiber optic cable. Most of the new stuff isnt glass but a plastic polymer resin thats SUPER clear, and easier to splice too. Most things like that used for lighting are a cheaper plastic so its easier and safer to work with. Real glass fiber optic cable is rarely used anymore since its super hard to splice when doing data connections. They probably used it for lighting either on the ceiling or floor. Put it under your dash and wire it to the interior lights when you open the doors
  4. Hey guys, new(ish) member. Been lurking since about 2009, life is starting to get in order so I have a bit more time to hop on here. I'm a SUPER ULTRA MEGA computer nerd. I've been working with computers since I was about 11 when I took apart my first apple IIe. I've been learning car audio almost as long, since I was 14. Though I havent had the funds to put into it, and computers are a cheaper hobby. I've been keeping track of Steve's builds for years, and I highly respect his fabrication skills and intelligence to do what he does, and some of the other builds I've seen on here are downright amazing. Hopefully soon I can start to do some fiberglass work, as its been one of the things I've wanted to learn for years. Right now I have a little W201 190e with a 3.0 motor swap. Electrical system has been upgraded with an amp from an ML55 (180 amp @ 1200 rpm, 240 @ 3000) 0/1 AWG stinger run to the back. Kicker 4 inch 2 ways in the dash and 4 inch stock midbass drivers in the doors powered by a JBL 2 channel amp. JL Audio 1000/1 V.2 SLASH amp, 2 JL Audio 12w6s in a ported box tuned to 22hz It hits pretty mean on the lows, but its difficult to get loud in that car because the gas tank is right behind the rear seat. Working on porting through the rear deck. Anyway, if anyone has any computer questions, feel free to PM me. Still trying to get my post count up (and help out) so I can get in the 18+ forums. You'd think after 3 years I'd be more active lol!
  5. HDMI is digital, and carries a 5.1 signal. Most newer recievers probably have more options than an old EQ with only RCA in/out anyway. I know mine even has a HPF for the other speakers. Either way there's also options for Optical in, PCM (which is still an RCA cable, but it carries a digital signal instead of an analog one). All of which should be better than RCA only. If you use RCA only and are trying to do 5.1 or 7.1 you would need an external decoder to convert it to an analog signal then out to 6 or 8 RCA's. The reciever should have inputs for that, though I'm not sure that its the best way to go.
  6. Removing Windows Activation Technologies will also kill updates, I was trying to help him stay legit
  7. You have to run that command in the command prompt. Start-> Search Type CMD Right click on it Run as Administrator Type slmgr /rearm Hit Enter You should be able to re-activate after that. If not, you'll need to re-install windows.
  8. Pro is the Sound Quality is awesome. Con is it takes double the power to get the same volume level of a ported design.
  9. We do pretty much everything. Its funny, last year we ended up playing the original Unreal Tournement from like 1998 for 8 hours strait. There's a few game rooms with Kinect, Wii, PS3, N64 and Super Nintendo. Usually we have a lot of games going at once. I have a 22u server rack and 2 dell servers running all sorts of games. This year I think Counter Strike Global Offensive is going to be a big one. Quake II is always big (we like old school) and a lot of the people who come I've been playing FPS games with for over 12 years.
  10. Anyone around here LAN? I have a big one at my house every year at the end of August with prizes and free booze/food. Lasts the whole weekend. If there's more intrest I will post more info. Its limited to around 40 people right now, last year we had about 25. Takers?
  11. CoolerMaster makes really good cases in all prices ranges, its pretty much all I go for now. What do you want to do with the computer? RAM is so cheap now you could put 16 gigs in for <100$ and spend about 600$ and get a computer that will run pretty much any game. Surf craigslist in your area for good deals on used parts. I got my CPU/Motherboard/Ram on there for 200, and it was an i7 920.
  12. awesome!! leave it to bigdeewiz to have the isobaric bandpass box on his page, that is OLDSCHOOL shit!! I hope mine works good, i used to really love the ones i built back in the day. They sound amazing, the output isnt as much as a ported box, but I'm sure you know that already. SQ wise you cant get much better though. Some of the best boxes I've ever heard where isobarics. Have you done any frequency testing inside the cabin? I've had the best results doing that and then tuning for the frequency dips for SQ testing. Looks good steve, great (and fast) craftsmanship as always.
  13. I posted this on FB, but here is a good video of an Old School 4th order Isobaric design from Polk Audio. 6th order I believe is ported on both sides. (for those who dont know what it is)
  14. Actually, that is a heatsink, it's not actually a fan. A fan just disperses air and "attempts" to move heat around in one direction. The job of the heatsink is to "take" the heat generated by the CPU and disperse it in any direction. My heatsink is slightly larger than the one pictured and has a fan that actually helps to remove some of that generated heat. Regarding the build, it looks like total overkill for a file server. My file server is a "cube" server box I found on Kijiji. 15 TB of storage? That is insane. Why bother backing up your movies when you just watch them once (maybe twice). I personally don't find a purpose for having that much storage for movies, when you're only going to rewatch MAYBE 10 in a few years. I would just re-download them if need be. The lights are overkill as well, who's looking at the file server? My fileserver only has one fan, directed at my hard disks. Generally (or depending on where you located it) you want it to be quiet, so a passive solution might be best. I'm not saying it's a bad build, it actually looks really great but for its purpose, I think it's overkill. But Overkill is awesome! The lights actually came with the fans that antec put in the case. I made sure all disks have a fan on them. I have has some data loss over the years and that is why there is so much space. I have two separate Raid 5 Volumes with all my important data backed up twice. I ripped the movies to it for convenience. With the XBMC server\frontend. All my movies are on demand. also... all fans on this server are turned all the way down... this thing is QUIET! Now you make me want to build one to put in this little guy . . . I just started working again, so hopefully soon . . . .
  15. how is all that shit you listed a $500 computer? You have a $250 dollar CPU, that and those raptors alone put you over $500. Im confused. I got the CPU, motherboard and half the ram off CL from a guy who needed cash and was parting it out for 250 The raptors I got from work (free) The 470 I got last year on black friday for 175 shipped The other 3 sticks of ram I got on a deal for 60$ PSU was about 90 Heatsink was 45, but the fan on it is from a dell and moves a LOT of air. Then theres the cd rom and card reader and such. I'm a bit of a nerd, I also have a dell 22u rack with a few game servers and a file server. I also use it to test new stuff I have to do at work.
  16. Here's my rig, its dusty as hell, but whatever. Its a budget build, I think total cost was around 500 i7 920 overclocked to 3.7 ghz 12 gigs Corsair XMS3 1600 2 10,000 RPM raptor drives in RAID 0 EVGA GTX 470 1.25 320 bit overclocked to 700/1400/1700 Coolermaster Silentpro 600 Watt Modular PSU Looks good Steve, you should check newegg on the memory, they frequently have it on sale on shell shocker, I just got 16 gig for my sons computer for 67$ shipped. Triple channel is a little faster, but I dont know if you'd even notice the difference, it might boot in 3 seconds instead of 4. If you're running windows 7 make sure that the auto defrag is turned off, SSD's dont need it and it will shorten the life of the drive.
  17. I actually have two of those 10 inchers sitting on the floor right now. Not bad little subs, they're pretty hefty.
  18. I've seen 1 10 in a focus flex the roof and pound. Honestly it really depends on the car, box type and woofer. Unless you throw thousands of watts in subs and amps in there. People hate to hear this but it takes testing, testing, oh, and uhh, testing.
