  1. Amp is a Pioneer Premier GM-7150M and the sub is a Pioneer Champion Series TS-W308D4. The sub is dual 4 ohm and we are running the amp at 2ohms. Its okay for that amp to do 2ohm. I was not in the car when the problem started it but here is what I got from it. Stereo was up about as far as he wanted to push it he smelled "something similar to burning fiberglass" then the sub slowly faded away. He says he thought the smell was something like the sub breaking in. Power light on the amp was gone. Ended up replacing both fuses in the amp, main 4ga fuse did not break. Amp turns back on now but will cut out for a few seconds 2-4, then turn back on for another few seconds 3-5 maybe. Temperature or volume doesnt seem to matter it does it all the time. I'm thinking the amp is fried. Any thoughts? BTW amp was bought used sub was bought new in april/may. Been running since late may.
  2. DC ftmfw. And any expensive steel toe work boot for work.
  3. I did that to an alpine PDX and replaced the fuses, after that worked great for years.
  4. Only 135 now. Almost there.
  5. Your going to make 137 posts as soon as you get home?
  6. Lets see a picture of this beast in your living room. I wanna see how clean your house really is. lol
  7. In my 4runner I have 2 15s tuned to 37.5hz in 9cuft. It does just fine.
  8. So if i measure down the center it leaves me with just under a half inch at a 90. I I'm guessing the thickness of the port wall (3/4") will put me close enough to what I need? EDIT: That would be removing the green part and just leaving it at that.
  9. So I want to make my port 19" long like the calculator in my last post says. If I do it like this... The red part will be 16~1/16" and the green part will be 2~15/16". Add the two up and that equals 19". Is this the correct way to get 19"?
  10. Its a JL 500/1 so somewhere in the upper 500 range. I will brace it if you guys deem it necessary. Its actually 5.25 inches from the back of the box. I was using the front sheet of the box as the first 3/4 of the port. I cannot find JBL's displacement measurements for these drivers. They specify box volumes with driver displacement already accounted for. So I guessed .14 cubes for both drivers. Sound like a reasonable guess? Well that boosted my frequency a bit so I added 2 inches to the port at a 90. Correct me if this is not how I am supposed to do it. If you guys deem 45's necessary I will add them. This guy is a good friend and I want to do the best job I possibly can. Now the 45's will take up some space so they will tune it even higher right? Which means I will need to make the port even longer? Do you think my changes help?
  11. Thanks man. He wanted it tuned that way, he listens to rock and country more than rap/hip-hop so I figured it would suit him a bit better.
  12. For 2 JBL 1220d on a JL 500/1. Old school. We are getting rid of the cheap universal box. Its going in a mini van first then maybe a 4runner later. So there should be plenty of room to breathe. So does it look like I made any big mistakes? Thanks...
  13. Hey thanks man. I do like that price compared to the Alpine. I imagine most of the dollars when buying an Alpine go to those 6 shiny little letters on the front. I think I'll probably wait and go with the P4100. Thanks dude. -toy
  14. I your opinion is the difference in quality between the JVC and this alpine worth the price? http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_9354_A...e+IVA-W205.html They also told me that the store credit is good for at least a few years so maybe I could just wait a bit and put down a good chunk for something real nice.
  15. What up guys. I've got $220 store credit. I'm willing put put down some more for the right one. Maybe considerably more for the really right one??? Idk yet. Single DIN, or double. Could use either. Maybe a double DIN touch screen. Something that nice I would just keep in the box till my next car with more security. Next car shouldn't be too far down the road. Throw out some of your favs. -toy
  16. Really? Man I'll check it. I'm gonna be pretty annoyed if your right lol. But thanks for the suggestion.
  17. K so I bought my truck with a dumb Sony xplod HU in it. Works fine on radio mode but when you use CD, Ipod, or AUX mode the rear speakers don't work. Faded forward and backward and when its faded back I get complete silence. No effect on subs though. I have no factory amp in my 1990 4runner. All 4 speakers are running directly off of the head unit. I just dealt with it for while and eventually bought a "new" Alpine IDA-x305 from Sonic Electronics. It had the exact SAME problem. It has no CD drive so I couldn't check that but in radio mode the rear speakers work and in Ipod mode they don't. I pinned it out to the speakers and both the Alpine harness and the Sony harness pinned out fine. I figured it was just the head unit again. So I got an RMA from Sonic and sent the Alpine back (it also had a problem where the screen fogs over when it gets warm). A week later I get an email saying they tested the head unit on both the regular outputs and the RCAs and the speakers worked fine on both. And charged me a $50 dollar "convenience fee" (not very convenient btw). I told them to suck it and that I didn't want it back because it still fogs over and I didn't believe that it was acutally fixed. I also didn't like the head unit very much but I didn't tell them that. So now I have a $220 store credit for a $300 head unit. But that's not my main concern right now. Anybody have any experience with this problem before? I don't even know what to do at this point. -toy
  18. "24. When you clean the interior of your car and believe it has improved your system." Haha not there yet but its definitely more comfortable afterwords.
  19. Whats up dewds. Name's Taylor. I'm within a half hour of sac. Always been into music and car audio, finally realized thats all I want in a car after messing with lifted trucks and little cars. Thinking about buying a DD truck just to put a big stereo in. Found the site through a friend who told me about Steve's vids on the tube. Found the forums through there. I have been stunned ever since I found the site, at how much information there is. Its hard when your a dumb teenager in high school and you get horribly misleading information from other dumb teenagers who don't know what the fuck their talking about. But that was a couple years ago and I've learned from my mistakes. Looking forward to the bass!
