  1. Are you talking about just the Hifonics? and What size wire are you running, what do you have it wired to? Ohms?

  3. So here is what I'm thinking, give the Maxxsonics pos a shot. (referring to the Maxxlink) Or do a parametric eq with 8 volt preouts and y connectors. I'm almost set to push back the build until Polk Audio get the strappable versions ready. Only thing that makes me continue on is knowing I will get to use the CC-1 lol. It's been years since I've worked with non-strappable amps.
  4. Well you can always show him http://www.dcsoundlab.com/records.html lol
  5. Hell I wish I had an uncle that was in to audio, my entire family thinks I'm nuts and in their eyes I'd be a millionaire if I hadn't spent 300 bucks on wire or alternator. So your uncle may be closed minded on products but at least he likes audio.
  6. Oh yeah thats a must, but what I'm looking for is control of my amps besides an inline rca bass knob. Like with your mind? How else are you able to control your amp's? Sorry.. Hence the name. I'm pretty sure I am just putting to much thought into a problem with a simple solution. But here is what my issue is. Ok when you strap an amp you have a master and slave, master controls all and gives you matching setting for your slave amp. Well when wiring them you gain the others impedance, so if you wire both to 2 ohm you end up with a 1 ohm load. From what I understand of the Maxxlink it works the same way if your amps can not be strapped. Taking n8balls2013's advise of this being an inferior product I was hoping for suggestion of something that would work along the same parameters. And that is it in a nutshell LOL>

  8. A little bump here, I'm wracking my brain to find an alternate solution please help LOL.
  9. I have a set of hx2 8's sitting in my basement with fresh recones...wanna trade? hahahaha
  10. Whats the cost of recone vs a sub of the same specs new?
  11. Think of the wire as a straw and your the amp. The louder you turn it up the thirstier your amp gets, with a small straw your going to burst a blood vessel in your head your sucking so hard lol. well when an amp is sucking energy and the wire is to small instead of bursting a blood vessel your creating heat, the longer you play the more heat and eventually melted shielding. The larger the straw the bigger drink you can take. But ground has to be same size also. I really hope that makes sense lol. If not pm me and I'll try again.
  12. I think I understand, If you got pics that would rock.
  13. I suggest if you got the basics of laying the felt, how to mix your resin and bondo ftmfw it's mostly trial and error. Dont work on anything your not prepared to scrap. I really feel it's a hands on skill that is learned by making mistakes. I watched a million videos on youtube over and over but wasn't prepared for the weeks of work that go into it. This was a project from last summer and this box took a week solid to do. rest of car had rear deck lid, a and c pillars all glassed.
  14. I use photobucket then post the link they provide from my pics to the page. Pretty easy, I think there is a topic on that someplace. May have to search for it. As for wire I'd think forward....you may only be pushing ......watts now but soon it will be ....... watts. In other words over kill is always better, I'd look at running 0 gauge. You already sound like the kind of guy that isn't going to stop at your current system lol.
  15. If your running 8 gauge I want to tell you to stop right now! I know that amp isn't pulling rated but that much draw on such a small wire is not good at all. I can dig up pics of burnt carpet from cars we've had here from to small of wire. Your box is a little on the small side as well. Kicker as a recommendation for a ported enclosure is at 6.011 cu.ft. tuned to 32 hz. for their minimum. Max for them is 8.013 tuned to 29hz. But first I want you to stop using that 8 gauge for power wire, don't toss it out because you can later wire your subs up with it....
  16. Welcome and I started at 16 as well, that was 20 years ago though LOL. Ok well the kickers are a nice start and the amp is decent, not great but ok. Lets start with the wiring, what gauge power wire are you running and what are your subs wired at? Second what are the specs on your box? Also pics of the set up if you have any would be cool. Once again Welcome to SMD, I would recommend read LOTS and take advise. And never mistake knowledge for arrogance.
  17. Mine was a Profile on a set of M&M Godfathers!! Almost forgot I had it hooked up to a JVC 2 knob tape deck!! this was in 1991.....damn I miss being 16 hahahaha
  18. Any suggestions on a viable substitute? I've been wracking my brain for an easy solution but all I can think of is a parametric eq (soundstream, clarion ect) with sub control for bass knob, gain matching and praying for the best lol. Any other ideas?
  19. So this year Polk Audio amps are no longer strappable......and after many hours of discussion on this with reps, techs and the build house they will be soon but as of now the shipment I'm receiving won't be. So what I need is info on Hi-fonics Maxxlink MLX-100 or preferably another product that will do the same. I will be running 4 PA1000.1's and replacing them as soon as the strappable version is available so I don't want to drop 500 on something that will be used for a few months. I'm thinking the Maxxlink is the way I will be going but I'd like to get opinions on it if any or if someone has used something else for maybe a little more cash.
  20. you are correct, the box is way to big for your 15's, changing the port will do nothing to improve the lows at this point. the only way your going to see any kind of audible difference is when you get those other two subs.
  21. /agree just got a set of 15's in for a team mate and I am impressed
  22. give us a budget you want to spend, but sundown audio sa12's would be a better choice for subs imo
