  1. It's probably weird loading with the way they are arranged in the box. Not tooooo much of a issue, but probably best to make a new box.
  2. Lol at the ads on the part express link you put up, like it says tech support and has this guy who looks kinda special, and other funny ads. Anyway, yeah, I reckon you could get somewhere with that stuff, budget how they rate it with peak power, but I'm sure you will be able to do some sort of hairtrick, tune really low too. Is this just to do a hairtrick in a house, or is it going to become some crazy as heck home theater system? lol
  3. Could be possible with 8 18"s, how high is the ceiling? Hopefully pretty low too, I say try it, good luck finding the amplification and shifting the boxes around into the room though.
  4. 2 18"s will get really expensive for shipping. Make sure you get shipping quotes on everything first. I got a quote of 600USD for 2 15"s to down here in New Zealand. I'd got with the 2 18"s though, 4 12"s or similar will cost just as much for shipping but won't have the wow factor. People Noobs Those who haven't seen large systems (thats better, has to be PC) think 18"s are giant even if they have seen 15"s. 18"s is just more pleasing.
  5. They do loosen up over time, but I don't think you really need to specifically break them in, like others said, just go easy for a bit.
  6. 2.1 0.9333333333... 8.4 0.2333333333... Probably some more that I missed, these are the simple ones though
  7. He could have bought it second hand or something like that. DC wouldn't give someone something they didn't ask for.
  8. measure the resistance of the power wire, one test probe on the battery pos. one on the amp pos. set to the diode tester function. Should be almost 0 ohms. EDIT: wait, it only does it when the amp is on? Is it a class A or AB amp?
  9. Yes, the expensive ones are tuned to around 20hz. And most home made home theater subs are tuned to as low as the creator can tune. Some are around 14-16hz. I personally didn't hear a 5hz tone, but the signal has been analyzed and there was content found as low as 5hz, whether you can put enough 18"s in your room to make it loud enough to hear is a different story. Or you could just buy a rotary sub, but they are like $25,000.
  10. Have a look around on this site. Everyone here uses amps that do rated power or more than rated power. Also, look for a amp that does 3Kw at 1ohm, that way it should do a little over 1.5Kw at 2ohms. I would personally say Atomic 3000.1D, but thats just because I'm using one at the moment. Sundown, Rockford Fosgate etc. etc. would work great too.
  11. Cool, I'll check it out in a hour or so. Busy ATM. All movies have bass, as you know. Every movie will have it down to 30hz (a few won't but most do, even if it is just a door slamming or music of some kind. Action, sci-fi etc. will almost always have it down to 20hz (as before, not always, but a lot do) This is your explosions, strange futuristic equipment, etc. And some even have it down to single digit frequencies, the LOTR trilogy (Lord of the rings) has content down to almost 5hz in some scenes (I think the catapult scene in the second one, I think it's that one) and other movies can reach 10hz. Now of course it is impractical to create 10hz at 120db in your living room if you only watch movies occasionally (and don't have a $8,000 projector and $3,000 speakers) but like we here strive for loud bass, so do some home theater people. Aiming for as loud and low as they can by mounting 8 18" in a infinite baffle (and they sure do get 120db at 15hz, maybe lower)But cheapish commercial home theater subs, while able to maybe reach 20hz, only get there at -10db or similar (unless it cost lots of monies!) as they are tuned higher. They are tuned higher because the average person doesn't want a hulking 6 cubic foot monster in the corner of the room when it only has a 12" or 15" in it. In short. 20hz tuning is great because it (mostly) allows the sub to play louder at 20hz frequencies without bottoming out, and lot's of movies need that capability. And, no, only some are.
  12. hmm. 30hz tune then. Should be good for most music. EDIT: depends on sub and box though. I can check it on bassbox pro.
  13. If it is purely for the house (to be specific, movies), tune low, like as close to 20hz as you can, maybe lower. You don't have to but it can give you super low flat response (very important for movies). Only problem is that that will make the box huge (unless you get funky with the ports). Check this out for home audio subwoofers http://www.subwoofer-builder.com/ <--- this dudes awesome work And also http://www.hometheatershack.com/ <--- a home audio forum, got some good subwoofer builds
  14. What ohm load is it wired to? And are you dropping to 10v when you play it?
  15. Discharged it with no load which killed the voltage meter up the top. The actual cap will still work, just not the little meter.
  16. Don't you love your bitches? Violence against woofers is not ok! If it wipes of with a cloth then it's nothing bad. No reason to be worried. Solder sometimes accumulates gunk. If you were clipping it you would smell coil.
  17. Blothru! Like someone else said, knock out the window and use that, then you could use that as the port for a bandpass.
  18. What size are these? 18"s I presume? Sounds like they could easily do 150db. Interested in pics of the said subs though...
  19. Probably also be illegal. It would be cool though. I still say take out the back seats, your bros can find another ride.
  20. Oh, true, yeah I know you have one, that was just a typo, if you had two you would have to wire them to 2ohms. But don't worry about that atm. Yep 1 sub dual 2ohm coils 2ohms+2ohms=4ohms! Yay!
