  1. Also, those who are going to upgrade to the iPhone 4, and lock into a 2 - year contract are dumb as hell...you're locking in on a phone that's already almost a year old...and you'll be stuck with it for another two years unless you pay full retail for a different phone. IMO, I've used the iPhone before, and hated it....I had a Droid 1(the original one), and I now have the Droid X and have never been happier. I can wireless tether my Droid X to as many people as I want...can load custom ROMs on it, and overclock the living crap out of it without sacrificing that much battery life.... IMHO; Android beats iOS any day of the week. Not to mention the newer Android phones have the front facing cameras, that you do NOT need to be on WiFi to use...I can keep on going..
  2. My first setup, what I still have currently is a Kenwood BT945U, Eclipse 3322 320 watt amp, RE Audio SRX12 Dual 2 ohm, in a 1.5cube box tuned to 32hz, slams the lows.. In a 2001 Impala LS, topswapped to a 3800 supercharged. love my car & setup.
  3. Is there a way to have it switched on and off with your car? Or does it just not draw that much to have to worry about it staying on overnight.
  4. Let me know how they are....want to get one. Where exactly do you guys hook it up? At the amp? or at the battery?
  5. I'm pretty sure it would be 3.30 before displacement, because once you put the subs in, they will displace .30, leaving you with 3 cubes. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
  6. Hi everyone. I got a Porter Cable 7424XP Dual Action Polisher for christmas, and I'm wondering if anyone has any idea what I should use on my car with it? It's a 2001 Impala LS, dark blue. The paint isn't in that great of shape, it sure isn't HORRIBLE..but it has a LOT of water spots, and "spiderwebbing" or "holograms" if you call it that? It has many fine scratches in the paint from where the paint has been not given much help.. I'm really looking to get the BEST shine out of my paint, almost like a "wet" look, trying to get the water spots out as well. It really bothers me. I de-badged the car awhile back, and there is a big difference between where the emblems were aswell. Sorry for ranting..would love to get some advice from those who have used the 7424xp before or something similar and accomplished what i'm looking to accomplish. Thanks! Any more questions; let me know! I kinda threw this post together quickly.
  7. yeah i have pretty much no problems. and yeah its alternator + to battery +, then for battery - to body ground, i used one of the strut tower bolts on the driver side (practically like 8" away), again sanding off the paint. for the 2nd ground you're supposed to do, i didnt do it because i am too lazy to look for a bolt and prep everything. Okay, awesome! Any chance you could take a picture of your setting knobs on the side of the amp? How did you set them? the way we have it set right now it doesnt seem to get louder if we go past half way....we found that out by hooking up his car to a car charger and letting it play that way.
  8. the big 3 is SO easy on these cars. the alternator is in plain sight. yeah i have a run of 4 gauge for my audiopipe and a run of 8 gauge to my rockford fosgate amp. i grounded both to the middle bolt that holds on the back part of the rear seat. i put the lugs under the little U post that is attached to the seat. of course you need to sand off all the paint in order to get a good contact Okay, cool! You're able to turn it up all the way? jeezzzz. we can't get that far..haha Big 3 is pretty much 0 gauge from alternator to battery? and then battery to ground? What else?
  9. oh yeah i remember now. i have the stock 70 amp alternator with the big 3 done in 1/0 gauge and a stock battery under the hood. thats all for "upgrades". my voltage cold is around 14.9 and when warm its 14.2. playing full tilt while driving i can drop to mid to low 12's, even drop into the 11's if i let it play long enough. ive never had any of my amps go into protect (except my previous hifonics amp that had a capacitor fall off the board then fried the mosfets) yeah the dimming dash lights bother me a bit but i have HID's for headlights so they dont even flicker. I'm on xbox live with him telling him all this stuff..he has that wimpy 70 amp alternator as well. I mentioned the big 3 to him and he said it sounded like something he could do. He does have a stock battery as well he thinks is pretty old so he may swap it out eventually. What gauge wire did you run to the back for the amp? I'm pretty sure we've got 4 gauge going from the battery to the trunk. Where do you got your ground going to?
  10. Okay, awesome. thanks. How's your electrical in your Corolla? I'm doing this work for my friends 1993 Corolla that I talked to you about awhile back. He's having massive voltage drop to the point where the amp hits protect, so we turn it down a bit. The headlight dim a whole lot, along with any interior lights.
  11. Huh??? That's confusing as hell. Would it be bad to hook up the pos & neg from the subs that are wired down to 1 ohm into just one of the outputs on the amp? I used the rockford fosgate wiring wizard...using this diagram..would it be bad to hook it straight to the amp like that?
  12. Hi, I want to double check something with the wiring I did in a buddy's car. Audiopipe AP-15001D. Two RE Audio SEXD4-12s wired down to 1 ohm. How would I hook it up to this amplifier? It has two sets of output terminals on the side.... Probably a noob as hell question, but I wanna make sure before I screw something up. Thanks!
  13. cubs_fan0718 & YoungBuck I think you guys just changed my mind. haha.....the BT945U is looking like the one if someone can tell me what the difference between the BT945U and the X794. One's excelon and the other one isnt. The non-excelon unit is CEA-2006 certified, the excelon unit isn't. any other major differences? Right now, whenever someone calls me I answer it and put it on speaker and lay it on my lap. It would also be cool to be able to play my iPod thru the HU with bluetooth!!
  14. Yeah I seen the new version, its a p3200 something like that..looks pretty nice but would like a physical knob for volume... It's also $260. lol The KDC-X794 is looking better and better.
  15. @ Gally; Thanks for the responses, but in all honestly the look of that head unit does not appeal to me. I know it may sound stupid, but it looks pretty ugly to me. Some of the buttons are "touch" buttons and that looks pretty clunky, I like having physical buttons. @Big Lo So you like it? How are the equalizing features, CD playback, and how is it to navigate through an ipod? EDIT: Sorry for the doublepost, internet is running pretty slow today and I clicked a few too many times. :/

  17. I thank everyone for the quick replies. So, the first one would probably be my best choice? I was originally looking at the Kenwood Excelon X994 which is the same thing as the X794 just with bluetooth and changeable LCD & button colors, for $100 more on crutchfield, on sonic electronix it was $259, but it's out of stock with no ETA on an arrival date. I should be satisfied with the X794? It's a good unit?
  18. Hey everyone.... Stuck between a few headunits; don't know which one I should get. Kenwood Excelon KDC-X794. http://www.crutchfield.com/s_113KDCX794/Kenwood-Excelon-KDC-X794.html?search=kenwood+excelon Kenwood KDC-BT945U http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_31020_Kenwood-KDC-BT945U-w-Aux-Input-Cable-iPod-Cable-ASWC.html Sony CDX-GT930UI http://www.crutchfield.com/p_158GT930UI/Sony-Xplod-CDX-GT930UI.html?tp=5684 I'm really not set 100% on what I want. If the price is right, I would love to have bluetooth, if it's a higher priced unit, it doesn't need to have bluetooth...it can also be a double din or a flip out touch screen, as this is going into a 2001 Impala LS replacing the stock head unit. In the end I need a high quality head unit that will last me for awhile, with preferably 3 sets of preouts, and it would need to have a USB and AUX input. Thanks! Looking to order something tomorrow or saturday!
  19. Grand Prix's have the same tranny that are in the Impala and Monte Carlos; the 4T65e's. They are notorious for trannys, how many miles on car? and what year is it? If I were you I would NOT put any money into this tranny, and just get a brand new one with heavy duty everything, along with a shift kit. they make a good one for the 4t65e trannies. i just hit 110k on my 01 impala ls and the tranny was pretty much gone at 108, taking forever to get going would shake and burn tranny fluid like crazy. Got a new tranny this past weekend, with the shift kit along with Heavy Duty everything, man it shifts like a dream. You should look into it. Tranny was approx $1,300 but didn't have to pay anyone, me and my dad put it in together; it was a pita but we got it done
  20. Already known about knukonceptz, planning to order wire from them. Thanks though. & There's really not a price range, just looking for what will sound/perform the best on an Audiopipe AP15001D. 2 12s?
  21. Well, I e-mailed him but didn't hear anything back yet. I may try calling my local DC retailer and find out some prices that way.
  22. Alright, I'll get to doing that. Anyone have any other suggestions on what subs to use on an Audiopipe AP15001D?
  23. Cool! I'll show him those videos tomorrow. How much did those Level 3s run you? I'm looking to getting maybe 1 15 or 2 12s in my 01 Impala, with that audiopipe.
  24. Okay, is this a good price for the Audiopipe 1500? http://www.caraudiodeals.com/audiopipe-ap15001d-p-1452.html Oh, cool! I'll let him know about you and that you've got a 94 and don't think 2 15s would fit. How does yours sound? Do you have any videos of flex from it?
  25. Hey everyone! I have never installed a system with amps and subs before, but me and a friend would like to learn. I'm not completely clueless; we are both in an Electronics class and have learned about resistances, current, voltage, and series and parallel circuits...so we're not up the creek without a paddle if you know what I mean. I am going to slowly start a system in my car after we finish his but this is a great learning experience for me. Friend wants to get a system going in his 1993 Toyota Corolla. I know it's a pretty old car, but we are trying to figure out what he can do with it. He ordered the Radio & 4 speakers for the front and rear doors. He got this HU package: http://www.crutchfield.com/p_700MP34220/Kenwood-KDC-MP342U-Package.html and these speakers for his front doors. http://www.crutchfield.com/p_20607DS400/Kicker-07DS400.html I've installed a couple head-units and speakers in doors before; so I know pretty much how to do this stuff. He would like to know how many subs will be possible for him to fit into his trunk. He is hoping for 2 15s but I don't think his stock alternator will be able to handle that much power. I informed him that adding a battery may be necessary. He told me that he would like to know what the max he could do without upgrading his electrical, for now. I showed him this amp, ( http://www.amazon.com/Power-Acoustik-CPT1-2000-Selectable-Terminals/dp/B003CYL7KI/ref=sr_1_13?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1289947451&sr=1-13 ) and he said he wants that one. Is that a good choice? Will his stock electrical be able to handle that? Maybe a cap? Sorry for such a long post, but anyone who helps I appreciate it very much.
