Cap How Big

all the batts do is store power to be used, like a cap, but in much greater quantities. batts should be wired in parallel, and a HO alternator is almost a must for a 5500 watt system to not have serios voltage drops -
I am sorry to say i am soon going to be taking a break from car audio. Getting ready to head off to college and i can't have a car there my first year, and parking is too tough to bring my car at all. So instead of packing/storing it all for 4 years [maybe 8-9 if i go to med school], i am going to just sell it. A local audio place offered me $220 for: Autotek 900.2 10/10 mech 8/10 cosm 820ish at 2 ohms bridged [yes its stable and could be burped at 1 ohms] 2 12" cvr's 10/10 all around. exactly a year old. well taken care of I think this was not enough so i didn't take the offer. I was hoping to get 100-120 from the subs [all original packaging and manuals] and 160-200 for the amp. Is this an unreasonable asking price? I would include my box for $75, it's a carbon fiber box 4.5 cubes tuned to 31 hz. well over 2 weeks worth of work and its super strong. Should i take the 220 and cut my losses or wait out for a better deal. I haven't advertised yet, just trying to get an idea. I could sell it on here, but i feel i would get a better price from a local person on there first audio setup. I also have an old alpine 4 channel that does great for me that i would like to get 40 out of, great little amp. Any input is appreciated, sorry for the long post

I have a 2 farad cap and the ONLY reason I use it is because it has a voltage display on it. And it was free. Multiple batteries would be a good idea if you are running 5500 watts. and a new alternator -

50 gazillion. then sell it and buy one or two deep cycle batteries -
may i ask why you dont want 8's? it would be a good transition between 6.5's and 12's and these look kinda sexy. http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cf...tnumber=295-376

http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cf...tnumber=290-356 That is what i used, not great, but super cheap. If i had more money i would have got the daytons edit: this is all ran off a set of 3-way diamond audio crossovers. mid, tweet, and rear [unmodified signal] off a 4 channel bridged to two channels [lol gets the job done]
-
depending on your comps, they should be fine on their own. I have 1" tweets, 6.5 coax's, and 8" goldwood woofer in my door and I think it sounds great. But my coax's SUCK at midbass so I neded to add the 8's [cheaper than nice/expensive components lol]

box plans are done, i did a dual chamber box, about 4 cubes per side, subs up, ports back, tuned 30-33hz. PM me your email and i will email you the file. And if you want some minor changes let me know and i can see what i can do.
-
are you gonna have access to fiberglass or all thread? i'll se what i can do, it'll prolly be til tomorrow though. i'll try and make it subs and port back, tuned to 32 hz using kickers specs for large ported box. let me know if you want different tuning soon. Do you have google sketchup? if not, try and download it [its free] and i will send you a file of the box when i get it done
-
are the dimensions in the first post, your inner trunk? or the opening? it would suck to build a box with those specs and not get it to fit.
-
Cabinet makers can build boxes, you just have to be very specific with your dimensions and exactly whatg you want. do you want subs up, back, and where is the port gonna be? slot aor aero port?
-
you may also try and find a box builder in your area. If money is tight and this is your first box, I would save some more and pay someone to build you a good box rather than you building it and risking it not be how you like and have to do it again. I don't know many people that made a great box on their first try. But if you are confident, the best way is to PLAN. and then run at it head first. planning is the key thing.

Accordman on this forum has [had?] a 150+ accord, but he had hella power and two 15's or 18's. PM him and see how much blood sweat and tears went into that build. edit: "Accordman: my 15" 5400 was 151.6 on music in an accord with seat down on music off a RF tk i would have bought a second one had the sub not snapped" if you dont know, the 5400 is an extremely badass sub, and, not to hate on your stuff, would shit in anything you can find in a consumer store. but by all means, prove me wrong and get that 150, i'm just not thinking it will happen with that equipment.

wrong attitude to be asking for help -
hmmm that doesn't look like 2 ga at all, more like 8ga. Maybe a pick next to your hand??? lol we just need a size comparison
-
yes i know, i normally dont shop at joans, but it was cheaper and better selection than walmart. She even ordered me the white crushed velvet with a coupon a didn't have lol. i guess i'm a ladies man [old ladies that is] JK
-
try the fan, mine was 10 bucks at walmart in the automotive area, its a small 10 amp fan, but does well for my amps
-
how did you set the gain? with any kind of meter, or just turned it up till it played? looks like 4ga power wire, but I can't tell, you may want to try 0 ga Where is it grounded? If its in a small area it just may not be hetting enough airflow, try a 12v fan you can plug into the cigarette lighter and see if it helps, and if it does add a more permanent fan with proper wiring and switchs. pics of where it is installed will do the best for us
