Actually, the units work great with normal Duracell or Energizer batteries. On the Serial number thing, i really don't know anything about that. I have had returns from Sonic (who ARE AUTHORIZED Dealers) and they all have serial numbers. This tells me they don't pull them off. If you got 2 without a number on them then you should probably start playing the lottery with your luck. FYI: Every return from Sonic that has ever came back to my shop has worked fine with the exception of maybe 1. People use stuff and then return it or they don't use it right and return it. None the less 99% of all our complaints or returns have been unfounded or user error. as for you saying "if you say anything negative you will get flamed"....what is that all about? I don't care if i own this forum or the product, i will tell you flat out that is BULLSHIT. I can't count how many times someone bitched about the product not working and within 3 pages of posts said "oh, it works now i just had to do this". Problem solved. But no flaming that i ever saw. If a product fails for no good reason, i will be on it like flies on dog poop but first i need to know it is actually failing. I can't count how many times someone sent me in a unit that was "not working" and i open it to find their cheap chinese 9v battery (that looks like it came directly out of their old Furby toy and into the unit.) A good Alkeline battery is essential. We have had probes fail (a few manufacturer defects) or people flat out ripping them out of the socket. Stuff happens. Even when it is user error to this day i haven't charged anyone for harnesses or scratched CD's and usually ship on MY dime. Even when people email me saying they bought it 2nd hand from a friend. These products are a first of their kind and problems WILL happen...and we expect it. But failure rate is low. Now whether D'Amore returns phone calls or Emails, i don't fully know any of the situation with that. They are not the same company as SMD. They are fully separate from me. So if you have had trouble contacting them in the past, that is something i cannot control.

If you have a problem with your unit, it is best to not open it up and start playing with it...voiding your warranty in the process. TBH i don't know what D'Amore is going to say or do about it now that it has been pulled apart.

your a pretty cool guy steve and i really respect you for sticking up for your product through everything and even more so for stating that as long as you use an O-scope right thats okay too. im come to this forum almost every day ( usually very multiple times a day) and learn something new every time i get on hear thanks to you, Tony, and Guys like Taylorfade. its almost like my little go to for any questions site. and the products are amazing as well too. just got an OM-1 and its awesome just waiting on some plexi for a nice little install. but back to the main topic, thank you for everything youve done in the car audio world as well with everything else such as things like the awesome ALS ice bucket/bag challenge you participated in. you are an awesome dude and someone i would love to meet one day, sadly im all the way in georgia and californias quite a drive from here. thank you sir

I'm not a hater. I appreciate the fact that it brought proper gain setting into the "mainstream" and promotes a better understanding of one's system. I just happen to use a scope. I may not even be using it right. I dunno. I hook it up and see waves and shit. I didn't mean to insinuate that clipped is *always* louder. When I'm doing SPL testing... I don't even use my scope. I just turn it up until I stop gaining. Similar to the way I don't "tune" my SPL boxes. But I'm obviously in the minority there and I don't advocate that practice. again bro, i was talking about the haters on other forums (addressing the O.P.)

As far as price is concerned, anyone here have an invention from the ground up? If you do speak up. I can tell you that the price of the DD-1 is more than the sum of it's parts because there is a LOT involved. I don't need to go into fine detail but EVERYTHING costs money when you bring it to market. There is so much overhead to keep even a small business flowing it is ridiculous. Anyone know how much it costs to retain a patent attorney and all the steps (and cash) it takes to get a patent? It's NO joke. Lets not even talk about Uncle fuckin' Sam. I could go way deep into why this thing costs what it does but without doing all that let me tell you when it is all said and done, the price is pretty damn cheap. thanks for all of those who support. I (and D'Amore Engineering) do appreciate it more than you know!

FYI: almost 6,000 DD-1's sold to date (not including the Plus or the DD-1 HV) 99.99% 5 star ratings on every site i sell them on and also my dealer sites. one guy got mad and left me a 1 star rating because his did not come with a 9v and he thought it should. For example... over all, that is a LOT of people who are now setting gains properly that were not before. Haters will be haters, not much i can do about it but keep on pushing forward....hell i bet most of them are mad because they did not think of it first. Even if they did, they don't have the amazing engineers that i have on my side. Nor do they have the drive to make it happen.

the DD-1, like it or hate it, has brought setting gains PROPERLY to everyone's attention. It's funny how all the O-scope experts came out of the bushes once the DD-1 was released though.......when before you never saw anyone except trained installers for high end shops using them. 1 in 100 shops if i had to guess. Which brings me to my next comment. To NOT believe in the DD-1 is to NOT believe in an O-scope. But the DD-1 is better because it is easy to use, more portable, easy to understand, and faster. Also the price vs. accuracy. Sure you can get a hand held scope for about the price of a DD-1.....but have you seen the resolution on those screens? Only expensive units have resolution that can get close to the DD-1. In other words what looks like a nice clean wave on that crappy screen really might not be. The DD-1 knows what is clean and what isn't.....and is on par with O-scopes worth 10's of thousands of dollars not just the $99 special online. Even my $400 TPI 440 scope cant touch the DD-1. The resolution is just not there. Also, half the people that have a scope aren't even using it right. For example someone a lot of you guys love even posted up a video on how to set gains with a O-scope and did it completely wrong. Everyone was like "wow, nice job" when it was a bunch of crap. My point is just because they claim to like a scope better and are against the DD-1 for whatever reason, that don't mean they are even using it right. At least learn the tool before you make your judgment. And most that use the O-scope correctly have no reason other than my name NOT to like the product. Now don't get me started on the DD-1 PLUS. O-scopes can't read your overlaps before you start a tune up.......the same ones you record in your notes when sending a customer home, so you can see if the gains have changed since it was set up. also, i might add, i have seen people gain DB from turning the gains DOWN to their correct position....so extra hard clipping doesn't always make extra DB. regardless....scope or DD-1 lover, a REAL shop should use one or the other because if done properly it really saves a lot of equipment and SOUNDS BETTER.

I have known My friend Mario Garcia for about 30 years. He was a good friend and his family always treated me like one of theirs, even letting me live at their house when i didn't have a pot to piss in. He was a big man, big enough to smother me and make me say "uncle" when we wrestled or had play fights in the living room so many years ago. We were young and we spent our early 20's running around on late night missions, doing whatever, whenever...including home-made tattoo machines and trying them out on each other. He was a HILARIOUS dude. Funny to the last day. He was not in the best of health for a few years and got frail over time. I recently told him "mothafucka i can finally whoop your ass" (he was in a wheel chair) and he would laugh. I hadn't seen him in a month or two but i could always count on seeing him sooner or later and i was hoping his health would take a turn for the better. I am very sad to say on new years eve, he didn't wake up. With my eyes tearing up badly right now, i just want to say, i will miss you bro and NEVER forget the good times. The picture below is the way i want to remember him. Big enough to kick my ass and make me say uncle. The pic below was when i took him to San Francisco in 1992 ish. He had never been there before. We smashed in my '85 civic on 13x7 reverse McLeans with the top cut off hitting some switches. good times. good bye brother

nope. There is enough air flow that i can see...plus the fans exhaust out the back. Plus you have to run the shit out of the AD-1 on a hot day to get it hot enough for the fans to kick on.

that should work fine. it has positive, negative, remote and the audio sensor wire. They are all very small, around 18ga iirc.

holding trim panels in I have used them for trim panels of all sorts, custom speaker grills, or even for holding two-piece speaker towers together I have a few other tricks up my sleeve for them just have to get off my ass and make it happen.
