  1. do all these equations work? because these formulas seem so simple compared to the formula given on the jl audio website.
  2. when you put in your port dimensions in the WinISD program, is that internal dimensions of the ports height and width (so in otherwords you are not putting in measurements that include the woods thickness), just the measurment internally?
  3. but do you have to calculate displacement from the port length that is given to you from WinISD? i dont see why you would have to calculate any displacement unless you were giving outside measurement values
  4. when WinISD gives you the port length, do you have to account for displacement after that or is that the correct internal port length and you do not need to change it at all?
  5. so you are saying that the port length given from WinISD does not give you the actual port length? You have to calculate in displacement? what displacement is there in the port? unless you are using outside dimensions (are you using outside dimensions and thats why you are calculating displacement?)
  6. yea i get it thanks man iw as just wondering about Realmofexcursion's tutorial on how to use WinISD. When you use it and get the port length, ROE said to make the port walls that length. So like if you are doing a bend port or elbow port whatever you call it (you know what im talking about) the port walls are the same length as the port length given to you from WinISD, which doesn't make sense. So i am just going to use the program to find the port length and then measure downt he middle and add .5 of the width.
  7. just wondering if I should take the port length the WindISD program gives me and use the way accordman said was right http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/forums/in...hp?topic=2854.0 the A+B+.5 of the width
  8. After following Realmofexcursions tutorial on how to use WinISD i have one important question regarding the port length. When you use the program it gives you a port length. When you are creating a port that bends or is in an elbow shape or whatever you want to call it... ROE says you take the port length WinISD gave you, determine how long you want the depth to be of your port. So lets say the port length the program gives you is 34 inches. and the depth you want for the first part of the port is 20 inches. Then you would have 14 inches left over 34-20=14 right so basically ROE says you take those lengths and that is what the measurements of the two boards are that you cut. You do have to measure though for wood displacement. So if you use .5 MDF wood the first board you would cut is 20.5 inches and the second board is 13.5 inches. you just have to make sure the port length is the length of the two boards. However i did think that the WinISD program could give you the port length and you cut the two boards to that length, and the length it gives you actually does incorporate the rest of the port, but they just give you that length and you cut hte boards to that length just to make it easier..? Do you guys follow what ROE demonstrates?
  9. Am i right to say that the sub you pick does not really matter. The only thing that effects building a box is the displacement of the sub when you calculate the volume of the box. ( and you have to meet the volume reccommended for the sub). but with WinISD if you really just want to build a port i dont think the sub you choose matters at all, does it?
  10. how much port area would you say is a good amount for lets say 2 subs that need 2 cu.ft each-so 4 cu ft.
  11. well i dont have a router but i iwll round them off. another question about ports, i know how to calculate port area and all but what does port area effect? like the more sq in.'s versus less sq in.'s- what happens when there is more port area versus less port area
  12. I remember reading somewhere that you should sand the square edge of the port, do you guys do that?
  13. Would you say that WinISD is accurate by itself? Does the sub that you choose (out of the drivers they have available) make a big difference when using WinISD? I figured that it didnt matter what sub you really chose on WinISD when you are looking for the measurements of the port and box and everything. Because you base the measurements of the port off of the frequency you want your port to be tuned to. could be wrong...thats just what i thought i jsut found that program and it looked great because i have been trying to find out how to create a port and know what it is tuned to.
  14. I found a great program that helps you create box's. I have been searching for how to find out what your port is tuned to using a actual slot port not round port(because most sites i found had an example with round ports). Anyways i found this program off of realmofexcursion.com and it seems to work wonders to me because i have been waiting so long to find out how to make a ported box and how long the port is and how the dimensions affect the tuning of your port. This program seems to do it all. Do any of you guys use it? I noticed that the drivers are pretty updated except for Rockford Fosgate subs. They have the old school subs , or maybe not old school but older. They dont have the Punch or Power subs (P1,P2,P3,T1,T2), which is a bummer cuz i ahve P2's. Tell me what you think and if you ahvent discovered it go to realmofexcursion.com and dnld it.
  15. gosh...these everyday choices are tough... i guess id say under also... ill check tonight
  16. did it say in stock, i thought it told you if they had it in stock or not. I think their prices are AMAZING and with the warranty that comes with the product...i can't go wrong. Plus im so tired of all the shops around here and how they handle business with selling products. The shop with the best prices is the worst shop to go to, the only thing they have going for them is the prices they have, and they are only rational, its not like they're great or anything.
  17. when you buy stuff from onlinecaraudio.com do you get insurance on the shipping? that has held me back form buying stuff. I know shipping is free. i heard you get insurance on anything that is over 100 dollars...but i just heard that
  18. go to barnes and nobles and get the car audio cook book. Physics class taught me alot about ohms laws and electrical systems, and how to actually calculate the impedence (series and parallel), you have to actually add fractions and take the inverse (i think its been 2 years)
  19. do any of you (who own shops) ask your clients for there phone number and ADDRESS. This place called DFW stereo asks for your address and it pisses me off, but maybe there is a reason? Anyways this arab guy owns it and it pisses me off he doesnt know anything. This place is authorized for Rockford and many other top brands (maybe even JL, i know they carry the subs), but the people they have working for them are very unporfessional and not classy at all. Its really sad. Another question for shop owners...do you put prices on your products (like sticker tags on the actual product) or do you not and you just say a price when an interested customer asks you how much it is. because i will ask this guy how much and he will be like 450, no i will give you a good price, 350 dollars, and its really stupid. Its cool to not have prices, but this guy is inconsistent and stupid. Be honest, do your work with all youve got, i cant stand paying a price for a shitty job. just my 2 cents from going to car audio stores.
  20. yea, i like the cowboys, i live in the DFW, but T.O. is too much for me. When i saw him have the biggest grin after he dropped that 4th down pass to turn it over when he was wide open pissed me off. He just had a huge smile on, he was wide open and it was a like 4 yard pass. I think terry glen and T. O. are about the same. T.O. is a great player, but there is a lot of negativity with him too.
  21. yea, i need to get like a cheap long sleeve shirt and some gloves because it is so itchy and it kinda does feel like a sharp point, its not fun. But once i fall asleep that night it usually goes away, until the next time i sand...
  22. When you are making a mold to fiberglass later (say for a kick panel or whatever), what do you use. You lay tape down and then do you just apply resin? Ive seen this done before on other posts
  23. yea, sorry chevy i just wanted some help asap so i IM'd you cuz you were the only person on from thhis forum that i had there sn (who i percieved to know what they were doing) and by you saying that i have a lot of questions i thought you were just being a dick. its cool now though i have got the answers to my questions so no need for any help on AIM anymore. sorry. I will try to learn more from the other posts.
