  1. The Volvo modular in the t5 has forged steel internals. Definitely capable of a lot more power. Depending on how boost is managed already, it may be as simple as a flash tune and a few dyno pulls. If not, you may need a boost controller. Any amount of boost you add will start requiring supporting mods, larger intercooler, better flowing fuel injectors, a higher output fuel pump... etc. I think the best place to start would be looking for a performance shop that specializes in volvo, or at least a forum or somewhere that people have experience with your specific car. Not trying to redirect you somewhere else, just saying that it varies widely, and it would be best to talk to someone who knows more about your car specifically.
  2. Does the car have a key fob? Or just a key? do you have more than one key to the car? Need a little more information. It may not have a toggle switch, it may require a process such as unlocking the car with the original key, then starting the ignition with it...etc..
  3. Thanks for the replys man. been a while since i checked in on this post. This isn't really an issue anymore, but thank you anyway.
  4. LOL tune keeping the turbo from spooling? no. And i'm pretty sure he'd know that his turbo won't spool if he's not on it, but obviously the boost is behaving differently now than it was before... he said it's a new TURBO not a new car... BUT i agree, we need more information about the car... Is this a direct replacement turbo? or is it larger? Did you look at the boost graph and make sure it fit your needs? does it have a properly sized intake/exhaust system to provide enough airflow? need more information..
  5. Airflow is as good as it's weakest link...So remember you can only get so much air through your intake and exhaust ports. Stock cats are not necessarily a bad idea, but if you can afford it i'd go with magnaflow high flow cats. Magnaflow is good, if you pay for there good systems. I'd much prefer Borla or a higher end company. Also keep in mind, more flow isn't always a good thing, don't go crazy with it because engines need some back pressure to maintain torque. I agree, for the money you are going to spend, you could get a more aggressive cam to provide a little more scavenging, and better high end horsepower.
  6. Every time someone comes in and says "this car is acting so weird! gremlins!! WTF!" It is a bad ground connection somewhere. Pull up a wiring diagram for your model and year, find out where the gauges, cluster, whatever else is affected is grounded....and 99/100 times, all of the components that are affected have a common ground connection. I've seen problems like this come down to a loose bolt under the dash. Find that common ground, check the connection **EDIT I'm referring to FACTORY ground connections, probably a bolt to a support member under the dash, with a large amount of components grounded to it. Just clarifying.
  7. Twins spool faster... but aside from that, i don't think you're exhaust noise is going to be that much louder... and yes, adding resonators will help, with minimal loss of performance.
  8. Looking to buy an SRT-4, i found one i like a lot, but the check engine light is on. Owner says it is because he is running without a catalytic converter. I know that part to be true, but doesn't that also mean his air/fuel ratio will be completely off? with false O2 sensor readings? How might performance/gas mileage be affected when running with no cat, and no tune for it?
