called a paint shop to see how much it'd be to plastidip my car, got quoted $1200. For that kind of money I can get an actual paint job

Do it yourself.... I think there's some actual dip shops in Jersey, not that far of a drive from you.

Yea either get the dip kit, or just go out and buy a case of dip. The Wal-Mart down here started selling the black, white, and glossifier. Not a big fan of the glossifier though, it cures with the texture of a new basketball.
