  1. This gives you the Re, or DC resistance of the coil. Because you put AC, not DC, voltage across the speaker in normal use, the AC resistance, or impedance is much more relevant. The impedance changes with the frequency so is not as simple to determine. The "ohms" listed in the specs for your speaker are derived from the graph of impedance vs frequency of the woofer.
  2. You should bend it. For the best results the port should be the same area for its entire length.
  3. As long as the port length and internal volume are correct both of those boxes are both fine. The port area is found by multiplying the height be the width (72 in^2 for the first and 88 in^2 for the second) There will not be a noticeable difference between the two. I would recommend the top box configuration, as most people find that loading the port into the back of your vehicle and the sub facing up to be the best option.
  4. Use WinISD to model the box with the drivers you plan on using.
  5. There is no need to round the inside edges of the box as wave at such low frequencies would not even notice it. All you are doing is making your enclosure volume smaller which is not desired.
  6. This sounds like your friend is turning up his stereo too loud. The iTunes songs are in high quality (256 kbps) so unless the producers allowed all of the songs you happened to download contain clipped bass (unlikely) the quality of the songs aren't the problem, your friend is. Clipping does NOT send a DC voltage to your subs, a DC voltage is one that does not change over a long period of time. In fact, your sub will never even see the clipped wave due to the filtering properties of the coil. It will put more power into your sub and heat it up faster.
  7. All the Q parameters are derived from the impedance graph for the speaker.
  8. Just a correction to the topic title: The woofer does not clip, the amp sends the woofer a clipped signal which originates from either the song or the amplifier.

  13. However your amp will run hotter on a lower Ohm load (because you are pumping more power through it) and you will have higher distortion from the amp. But from the subs point of view XXXX watts into 2 Ohms is the same as XXXX watts into 4 ohms.
