and that gap that the box fits into the tunnel is SOOO tight its rediculous like seriously a mm.. like pushing with all of our stregnth combined after like several tries it moves inch by inch.. its extremely difficult. and by myself haaaaa forget it.. i used a jack to push it in/ out. i didnt damage anything but jesus its redic. but ima go chill, im car audio'd out.. thanks again though. maybe ill have the energy to work again on monday..

Yea, i mean realistically for most people spending ohh idk 30+ hours easy and $150 in materials and gaining a few tenths especially for people who compete like my friend its time and money well spent.. a few tenths here and there is the dif between winning and losing.. now mind you i wasnt expecting a 49 or anything but maybe a 47 woulda been nice.. instead I lose several db.. oh yea and weirder still: We burp idk like 144.4 at 51hz without a charge like we put a few burps on it at that point.. charge etc etc Same freq and vol = 144.2 at 51hz LIKE HOW DOES CHARGING LOSE DBs!!!!!! like what in the hell is going on.. Thats why we started questioning the TL now that I think of it..

Ok Sooo Ive spent every day this week working on this project and Ive got nothing but inconclusive results.. Hopefully someone can help me sort through this. First the specs: SPL Box 2.8 net 6" aero port Firing forward in the tunnel as shown. Testing Procedures: The box was tested at different depths in the tunnel every two inches. Car off, external head unit Batts charged to 14.5v, allowed to rest at 13.0v Burp, record score Charge, rest move box 2" forward repeat.. blah blah blah. Loudest at the furthest position back.. So we burp: 143.7 @50hz reset 144.8 @51hz!!! like who gains a full db from 1 hz? we try to back that up and re burp that score = 144.4 reset 143.3 @52hz.. where did that full db go... reset try one more click on the volume.. 143.3 @51hz.. WHAT HAPPENED TO THAT DB??????? needless to say we tried to eliminate variables Changed the h/u.. similar results 143.3 ish The amp clamps the same.. 1967w @ 1.4x Ohms Dropping from 14.3 to 12.0 car on.. consistently clamping a shade less dropping to 11.7x v with the car off.. i dont remember those exact numbers.. Sub nominal imp @ .5 all coils check out etc The car is the same.. Port is the same.. Where did it go? So ignoring that problem that neither of us can explain.. we began shortening the port.. current tuning was at 41hz peaking at 51hz So by shortening the port and tuning closer to what it peaks at you should gain some.. I dont have the notes in front of me but needless to say we gain a tenth, shortened, gained another tenth All said and done with tuning @ ~50hz burps a 144.8.. So great we got back to where we were.. but does that mean it could be a 145.8 once we figure out where that db went? Either way the trunk is just about sealed as best as it could possibly be with out taping the box down after we finish testing and its not even close to the 146.3 they I did with the other box in the back of the trunk.. Now the whole point of sealing is to gain, which I havent in soooo many tries.. not even a tenth of gain and sooo much work went into this.. We thought maybe its the TL, on monday I might go and use my friends TL and use them side by side and see if mine is off, but why would it be,,? I mean wtf is going on.. anyway pictures:

what do i need for this .5 ohms?
P4killer_ replied to Tim Lam's topic in Electrical-battery- Alternators- Wiring
I understand. I just saw the title and would have bet money like 50 people jump all over him for even asking that question... It's sorta like how people ask how many watts can I run.. and people jump up and down like 11 bats and 2 alts for 6 k and in real life you see a million people running a to. Of power on stock alts.. There is the ideal best way to do it yes. Agreed But many people do it safely with less. But yea if you have to ask then run at one ohm. -

I'm super surprised that the first 11 replies weren't "if you have to ask then don't do it"... -

Computer gurus please help. Lap top crash.

Yea I was gonna say.. using a restore point usually doesn't work. Either a it'll tell you that it was unable to restore because many viruses can block this or b it will restore but the the infected files usually remain and you've done no good in restoring. Like many have said I would just restore the factory settings. A clean re install is most of the time easier than fighting a nasty virus. A few things for the future Get your self a flash drive to back up important things. Files spreadsheets work stuff. Drivers especially for custom built PCs I hate starting my computer over and you have zero drivers for all the devices etc. Also call up acer. It's usually only a few bucks to have them send you out a hard copy of windows to restore from just in case your partition goes down too. Also immediately get rid of McAfee or Norton or w.e it comes with. It's pure garbage. Avast is one of the best free ones per tomshardware.com they usually run a suite of tests and list the best programs etc. And if you use IE aka internet explorer... Use something else.. chrome or Firefox. Ie is better these days but still not the best. But ie has been known as the most suseptable browser when it comes to malware viruses etc for years .. Good luck man. -

And My trunk has those stupid swing arm style hinges.. if you fill the hole thing up with foam you wont be able to close/ open the trunk once it hardens.. Apparently I dont understand fully what it means to seal off the trunk, and before I did something drastic I would like to more or less have it down pat. Ill be at work alll damn day theres a 3x in elgin, il tommarow ill be there if anyone wants to check out my apparent leakage lol -

I mean of course you could just spam foam everywhere, but what happens when you wanna change the box or take it out etc etc Ive seen numerous people like "Gorilla tape and cardboard" apparently that approach is not ideal.. -

yea i dont want to use spray foam...its so permanent..and messy.and i cant get the sub any closer to the cabin without cutting into the rear deck/ trunk opening its not perfect i understand that but i shouldnt lose over 3 db.. do you really think if I were to sealed it off the remaining lets say 30% Id get my 3db back to where I was and then some.. Ive got some damp on the way as fox suggested and Ill use that on the deck. Otherwise what are yoursuggestions for improvement then? Thanks -

I mean the dif between a 43 and a 46 isnt super noticeable to my ear.. so it sounds quieter on higher notes and louder on lower notes, but then again I could be half crazy.. -

And I always meter sealed up.. My peak was at 44hz in the trunk, went down to 42hz sealed off. I will note that I have not tested freq above 50hz.. the spl dips lower and lower starting at 48-50hz so I dont think its going to magically spike at 5xHz. And I just meter under SPL not any particular org or setting usually with the peak hold on.. for obvi reasons -

Pictures later, my old phone is being stupid and I have work FML -
Ok first off. Using the current equipment in my sig, I did a 146.3 at Slamology with the the trunk not sealed off. I wanted to try sealing to see what happens.. I have done trunk seal mockups before and always lost a significant amount my conclusions from that being that unless the trunk is reeeally sealed off, you will lose SPL. I never did the rear deck in these tests. So I set out to reaaally seal off the trunk w/o expanding foam however because its so messy. So I took out the entire rear seating out. Rear deck got a layer of painters plastic sheet taped down tight and fitted sealed up all edges corners etc then a layer of cardboard taped down fitted etc etc The stock dampening went back on top of all of that, it basically covers the entire deck.. The rear shelf went over all that Taped up any holes underneath as well. I made a bracket out of 2x4s to go around the trunk opening secured seal and taped it in Slide the box into the now square opening Results at this stage: 142.7 I used air conditioning foam around the top of the box from the back even though its very tight already Added foam paneling around the sides to complete the seal all the way around Results at this stage: 143.2 [+0.5db] Ill add pictures later, however my smartphone broke otherwise id have lots of pictures, so i only took a few from my old slider phone. For all of those people who swear by sealing the trunk WHAT AM I DOING WRONG? Is it perfect? No, but its pretty dang good imo. I spent idk 10 hours easily if not more on this project. And losing 3+ db is a craaazy loss. Opinions thoughts ideas appreciated, P4Killer_
