anr102990 posted a topic in Subwoofers / EnclosuresI’m somewhat unsure of optimal port area in relation to a specific woofer, the net volume, power applied, and tuning frequency. My sub is a skar DDX 12 dual 2 wired to one ohm on a skar rp 1500. It’s currently in a box I built for it , 2.35 ft3 net @ 36hz with 37 sq in of port area. It’s a bit peaky in my opinion, drops off really sharp around 33 and below and plays well up to 48 or so and drops off again, I’m sure cabin gain plays a role as well. I’m about to design a new box, tuned lower, with the goal of playing a flatter bandwidth musically from at least 28 to around 50 if possible. I need some of you gurus to help me accomplish this please. I was playing with numbers in win isd up until my laptop took a shit this morning and won’t charge. So, Do I need a little less port area when tuning lower and with a little more net volume? As in increasing the net volume to 2.5-2.6 and decreasing the port area a little? Have heard over and over about the 12-16” and blah blah but I’m looking for optimal volume with a flatter musical response for my specific system. I recently read an article where higher tuning benefits from more port area whereas lower tuning is helped with a little less port area. Any help will be appreciated. Pic is of my current sub/enclosure @Triticum Agricolam Can you elaborate a little more on how watts per cubic foot relates to port area, specifically slot ports vs aero ports? Would a slot port need more area due to having more surface area from the walls of the port itself? I’m really trying to learn all this and learn it correctly the first time as I get deeper into the real deal specifics of design..
anr102990 posted a topic in Subwoofers / EnclosuresGot a Skar DDX 12 dual 2 ohm sub 1000w RMS. Christmas gift. Will be going in my 2005 F150 supercrew. I currently have 2 Alpine SWS 10d4 in a sealed Fox Box under the seat with an MB QUART amp, amp come free with the purchase of the 2 subs so it wasnt a bad deal IMO. That system will be going in my wifes Camry, building slot ported box now for it. Anyways im looking for a louder setup, but also musical as well. I am capable of building my own enclosure, so any suggestions would be appreciated. I was thinking somewhere around 2.25 to 2.75 cu ft after displacements tuned around 35 hz with a 6" aero port but am open to other designs. I have never had an aero port design, always slot ports and was curious to try it out. i have yet to purchase an amp for the sub and was looking into the Skar RP 1500 wired to 1 ohm but am also aware of box rise...so may save a little more for a bit larger amp. Also would like to add that i will be setting the box on the floor in place of where the smaller portion of the rear seat will fold up, for now anyways. Thanks in advance.
So to start out this box will be going into the trunk of a 2005 chrysler 300c. Sub is a Skar Audio DDX 15 being powered by a matching rp 800.1 and max dimensions are: 17H x 31W x XD (D = anything really to make 4 cubes and fit aero port inside box if Possible). I already have a 4 cu ft slot ported box in the back with sub and port facing into the cabin, and it hits nice but i like the look of aero ports plus a change is nice every now and then. Now my question's really come down to: Sub/port placement ( IE: sub up port back, sub/port forward, sub back port forward) and what size aero port(s) should i go with? Looking for around the 32Hz range.. Also is there any advantage in having the length of the port inside the box vs outside?
