Noise other than bass coming from sub

Recommended Posts

Sup SMD? So recently I picked up a pair of 12" DC Level 3's for my Scion and lately I have been having some noice come from one of the subs. I only really hear the noice on the really low notes when the sub is moving the most. It's an audible tapping (almost rattling) coming from inside the box itself.

I'm fairly confident the box is screwed down securely and the noice is not a result of it bouncing on and off the wood. My current guess is the bridged speaker wire inside the box is loose and bouncing on and off the sub, but I can't be quite sure without taking the subs out which is not something I want to do again until I'm more confident in what the problem is.

So anybody have any ideas as to what it might be based off previous experience or will I need to troubleshoot this from sratch?

Thanks.

Tapping could be that the cone has separated from the spider or something. Could be a number of things, the box is just crap or a pre-fab or your playing wayyy too low for the sub to handle.

Maybe a broken box, or port flex.

Broken box is possible but I dought, it wouldn't happen on only low notes if it was the box....port noise is highly unlikly.

My money is its bottoming out when playin way below tuning.

The box is pre-fab that I built myself - ported.

I don't think it's bottoming out because even though it's only heppnening on the low notes, the sub is not moving anywhere near what I know it can do before bottoming out.

I should re-word what I said in my original post, by "moving the most" I didn't mean that it was playing at it's lowest frequency, I meant when it was playing low compared to the other notes more commonly played.

I'll just end up taking the sub out tomorrow or when I'm off on Monday to do a rookie inspection of teh sub and make sure the bnos isn't falling apart.

how do you build something that is already built?

box specs? playing below tuning will bottom out your subs.
