brad131 Posted February 18, 2011 Report Posted February 18, 2011 well like the title says im a noob when it comes to this, i love bass and have had systems before but nothing even halfway decent or that even almost sounded good,and right now i have a question. i bought a jl audio 12 w6 today with a jl audio 250/1 amp, my question is this the right amp for this sub? i have a ported v-tech box that the sub is in, i had someone install this setup for me today in my 2003 kia spectra and i have everything on the amp tuned down and the cd player bass is -8 but if i turn my volume passed 20 sometimes 18 when the bass starts to hit harder the amp shuts off. so i un hooked everything so wouldnt hurt anything, can anyone help me fix this type of problem? i will take some pictures tomorrow morning and better describe the guage of the wires and the size of the fuse connected at the battery, but to my knowledge the wires are from a starter kit at advance auto cost like 19.99 its very small. and the fuse at the battery says 100a so im guessing 100 amp?

brad131 Posted February 18, 2011 Author Report Posted February 18, 2011 by voice coil setup you mean from the sub connections to the box connections? if so when i watched the guy put it in he used speaker wire and put one wire from positive on the sub to positive on the box and one wire from negative on the sub to negative on the box and thank you for responding so fast ill have pics up first thing in the morning

raytard Posted February 18, 2011 Report Posted February 18, 2011 no, you need a 500w amp if you want to play the sub at 500 watts. As it is right now you can play it continuously at 250 watts, which wont hurt anything or cause any issues, only downside is you are probably 2-3db lower than what the sub is capable of. brad131 Posted February 18, 2011 Author Report Posted February 18, 2011 when i was taking pictures i turned my car on to listen and noticed that the fuse at the battery is very loose and by that i mean if i held it and pushed it in the amp wasnt cutting out as much but if i let go it would just stop so im just guessing thats a problem.
