I'm ordering two level 3 12s, and just like the topic says I want to hear some opinions of box preference.

I want a decent balance of spl and sq. I've heard a low tuned ported is the way to go, as it creates a flatter freq response curve than a ported tuned higher (28hz vs 38hz), but still gives some increased output at low levels. I stuffed the port of my current prefab box with foam and it drove the freq handling down noticeably. I want to be able to hit those low, "rumbling" frequencies. Can a properly designed and tuned box actually provide this?

These subs will each be powered by a punch p500.1bd amp, both with rms around 700 watts.

What I have now (old RF p2 12s) used flap and sound terrible in the ported box they're in now..it's rec airspace and tuned to 38 hz, but the port is stuffed now and they can get much lower. Just womderig if tuning lower would help with the flapping

rap/ hip hop

you do know that most normal music doesnt go that low right? You'll find some in the 30 hz range but not alot. most of the really loud stuff is right around 33 hz or so. Decaf may go lower. chopped and screwed stuff as well. I dont play a ton of decaf and certainly dont play the stuff that is meant to peak at lik e25 hz or anything. Tuning super low just doesnt roll off like I would want it to. Thats me and others would rather tune low and have ass for output over 50 hz.
