MAXSPL_153
ive come to the point in my build of the charging system . im having a little problems coming up with a battery configuration. im leaning toward running 12 6V deep cycle batteries in a series parallel configuration. now they are lead acid batteries , and i understand about the "venting of hydrogen gas" while charging and all that jazz. but im at a loss as far as if i can hook them up to my alternators or not . i know being in series they can provide 12 volts , but can they "accept" a 12V charge from my alts? only reason i want to run these is because they are 250Ah each and only $110.
OldsBoomer
yes they can but i woud NOT use anything but an AGM battery for audio Suburban Coming Soon
AMI CUSTOMS
Plus the aH rating doesn't mean anything for a car audio application. You want to look at reserve capacity. MAXSPL_153
yes they can but i woud NOT use anything but an AGM battery for audio why only AGM ? with proper ventilation wouldnt they work fine ? im just curious as of what makes an AGM worth 3 times the cost of lead acid ... and correct me if im wrong but isnt Ah just a little different way to say RC ? "Many batteries today are rated in CCA or RC. CCA is Cold Cranking Amps. CCA is approximately equal to the RC of a battery times five. [1000 CCA is about 190 RC]. RC is Reserve Capacity. You can convert RC to amp/hours by the following formula:" Amp/Hours = (Reserve Capacity / 2) plus

crunkjuice1
In car audio CCA doesn't mean anything, As for AGM batteries they are deep cycle, sealed, and they are able to give out and accept power much faster than traditional batteries. It's also not recommended to mix different types of batteries.

AMI CUSTOMS
You can but they will pull each other down at resting, when the vehicle is off, the standard battery will "appear" as a load to the AGM, because the standard battery is more resistive, this will eventually kill one or both. That is why you don't want to mix and match, AGM's all the way for car audio.
