car shakes and idle drops really low

hey guys.. im also jumping onto this.. my vehicle does this too.. but i have a weak coil somewhere as even without a system i have issues! having my system running full tilt at idle for a bit can mess up the idle. I have a stock alt and 2004 intrepid SE with the 2.7.

My car is distributorless ignition so I'm thinking the coil pack is old or an O2 sensor is bad. Stuff like this kinda sucks but doesn't hurt taking the car to autozone and have them do a check engine light test and see if they get any codes regardless if engine light is on or not. We will just end up throwing money at it trying to guess whats wrong. In another thread I was told it could be a vacuum leak like a old cracked hose somewhere along intake.

I've got a 95 Civic EX. This happen to me a while back.

If you have exhausted all routes, I would check into your IACV and your FITV

these both control your IDLE.

99% of the time they get dirty, you pop off two bolts, spray some (engine cleaner) i used brake fluid, pop bolts back on and start it up.

This is VERY common in older civic.

Its worth a go, doesn't take but 5$ and 20 minutes. Free if you already have brake fluid!

Did you charge battery before installing alternator? I saw a video a ways back where the battery was drained a bit and the car did that while alternator was trying to charge it.

this is how you burn out your voltage regulator

my 95 teg i just got rid of would idle super rough. one night i was sitting at a light and it just died. wouldnt start back up. pulled off the dizzy cap and the points where it fired had a bunch of build up on them. i sanded them clean and it fired right up. i then changed dizzy cap and it was all good.

my car does this too (95 T-bird), only if im in gear though. Like if im at a red light too long system turned up or not my rpms drop way low and it acts like it wants to die and sometimes it does, im pretty sure i have a bad egr valve though but would that cause a problem like this? not trying o thread jack either

I was going off instructions mechman provides saying to charge batteries BEFORE installing the alternator.

I was just thinkin about the cap....probably worth a change just to see...

id start cheap and go from there. thats what a shop is going to do. if your a little handy you can fix this yourself and save shop labor.
