TIG
I installed a l7 15 in a ported box tuned to 32hrtz in the trunk of my wifes deville today. Its being powered by a ppi 1000d amp. Sub sounds good but when the trunk lid is opened it kills. Why would it sound so much better with the trunk lid opened? My wife is on my ass about this and I am looking for a quick response thanks Edited March 27, 2011 by TIG Quote Since were all having a moment of truth. I hate country too.. TIG
Anyone have any Idea? Could it be because the sub is facing back and the port is on the side? audiofanaticz
Its because the interior of the cadillac. The thick seats, the rear deck lid, etc. Its hard to get the caddy cars loud without opening it up thru the rear deck a bit to get the air moving. Had the same problem with my STS a long time ago! Also, is your box sealed or ported? What size is the box? what are the port dimensions? Maybe build a new box with a bigger port may help depending on its current size. TBusaMike
Anyone have any Idea? Could it be because the sub is facing back and the port is on the side? Do you have a port or hole in the back deck for sound to port into the cars cabin. I had a 2000 Seville with the same problem....I cut a 6" hole in the center of the rear speaker deck and put a speaker cover over it....Worked perfect for the power I had at that time (2 Punch Power DVC 12 in a sealed box facing rearward on an old OLD antique Hifonics Zeus)
audiofanaticz
Also Im not sure if your car is new enough, but if it has the factory Bose 12 inch subwoofer in the rear deck, take it out. Just taking that out will improve things tremendously!!! Otherwise Like I said before, the thick leather seats, then the plastic panels between the rear seats and trunk for the cars computers and factory air ride, premium sound amps if you have it. It all just blocks the sound waves!! Heres the pic of what I was talking about. I Just cut out my rear deck, a pretty big sized hole ( about 16inches by 30inches wide)! Then I bought some leather from the fabric store to stretch over the hole (you can kinda see in the pic) cant find any better pics of it, and the car is long gone. baaudio
ya older cadillacs are notorious for this. the no pass thru really kills it. but some minor mods and youre all good. TIG
Its a 2001 deville with the flip down center arm rest. I took out the 10" Bose sub and did not make a difference at all. I do not know exact dimensions of the box right now but can get them tomorrow. I doubt she will go for cutting holes in shit so idk what to tell her lol. Is it possible the port and sub not facing the same direction could be causing it? It would be so much easier to just build another box lol Quote Since were all having a moment of truth. TIG
I figured out what the issue was in the wifes car. I faced the port towards the back and it made all the difference in the world so I am going to build her a new box with port back sub back. The box I am using now is 2.86ft^3 with 99.13in^3 port. I am sure this is not right so if someone can give me some advice on how to correct this I can begin building the box. Quote Since were all having a moment of truth. I hate country too.. TIG
I dont mean to be a pest but I start back to school Tuesday and the next comp is saturday so I need to get started on this box. Anyone have any idea if Im working with the right size box or if I need to make a new one? Quote Since were all having a moment of truth. I hate country too.. TIG
I did some measuring in the caddy and I am going to go with a 3.9ft^3 box which is 38"w and 17"t My question when does the depth come into play and how do I calculate it? Also I want to tune to about 30-32hrtz so how would I calculate the cubic inch for the port? Quote Since were all having a moment of truth. I hate country too..
