using diodes to step up voltage

Recommended Posts

You think that this setup could work on a 98 dodge ram? It has a external regulator and was wondering what wire to tap into.

It should but you will have to find the wire, I have no idea.

lower tuning is just hard. I was surprised how loud 145 sounds at 35hz, and how quiet 145 sounds at 50hz.

Here is what I used. I Used 2 and on COLD starts the voltage is ~16.0 Volts but drops quickly to ~ 15.2 Warm. Its also still ~33 degrees here in Mi :(

Found some , like on ebay that are 6 amp 1000v.

Look like this;

Diode-6R10.JPG

Those look VERY similar to what I used. I also found in my research that most people use 10A diodes, I didn't have them so I used the next largest.

Sweet, yeah the part number on the ones i was looking at where -6A10, but dont know what the "L" is on yours but i think they are the same,

6A10 6 Amp 1000V Rectifier Diode.

140.jpg They look identical with the exception of the "L". Im fairly sure they are the same .

They have some 10 amp ones for sale also, but im not sure i want to go much over the 15.2 warm on an otherwise stock electrical system except for big 3 upgrade with 2 Gauge and a new 130 amp alt.

I am afraid that 16 volts+ constant would reek havoc on my electrical if i used two 10 amp diodes, the two 6 amps should be perfect, this may sound stupid but how did you make it ? Did you just solder the two diodes together end to end and wire that in ??

Thanks

Unfortunately XS doesnt make the VCM to fit my Ford so ive been looking into making one myself for some time now. Just didnt know anyone that had actually done it and tested it.

I run an MLA which does the same thing thats being done here. On cold mornings, in the 30s, my truck will be at 16.4 then around 15.7 when its warm and I have no issues yet. Been running that MLA for at least 2 years now.

OP I would like to see picks of your install
