JasonsKreationz Posted April 8, 2011 Report Posted April 8, 2011 I'm going to be buying speaker wire today and I wanted to see what gauge everyone things I should buy. I need to buy speaker wire for my mono sub amp and my 4ch mids/highs amp. The sub amp will be running two 12" subs at 1 ohm about 500 watts RMS each. The amp is about 12 feet from the subs. Since this is a mono amp, I'll be running only one positive and one negative from the amp to the box. Once I get it to the box, I'll split it to the two subs. So the wire will be carrying about 1000 watts RMS. I was wondering if 10 gauge would be sufficient or should I run two 8 gauge power/ground wires to them? The 4ch amp will be running two sets of components at 4 ohms at 60 watts RMS per channel. The longest run of wire will be to the front speakers which is about 15 feet away. Will 14 gauge be sufficient? Thanks guys! ISO Posted April 8, 2011 Report Posted April 8, 2011 12 gauge for the subs and 16 gauge for the mids and tweets. (this is just fine) Use 14 gauge if you can but the 16 gauge is more than enough. EDIT 10 gauge for the subs and 14 gauge for the mid & tweet amp is the largest you would need. Isobaric - Refers to the practice of coupling two drivers together to make them act as one. TheyDontWantMusic Posted April 8, 2011 Report Posted April 8, 2011 depends on your subs impedance. 500watts into half an ohm is over 30amps. but 500watts into 8 ohms is less than 8 amps.

Subs are 2ohm. You never know how strong you are until you cold-cock a woman in the head and break that bitches jaw. Next time she tries to punch you in the stomach, whip your wiener out and chase her around.
