zayres29
i cant decide what i need/want to do i have to get an alt either way for my 91 c1500 i can either run a dual setup with my stock alt/ batt and run a separate voltage for the amps either 14 or 16v (most likely 16v because if i have to split it i might as well make it worth it) i can also just run a single alt and build a very strong 12v system or i can do as i planned before and run a 14v system for the whole truck but i really want to stay away from using stepdowns unless someone can justify the cost of them over just running a completely separate charging system all together thanks Quote Btw that was the first person. hdorre
What about dual alts running a single 12v electrical system? What amps do you have? Edit: just reread the OP. If you're limited to just one alt, I would advise you to just stay at 12v because if a stepdown fails, you could be fucked Edited April 19, 2011 by hdorre Quote On 5/8/2011 at 7:38 PM, Kranny said: On 5/8/2011 at 7:35 PM, 'Maxim' said: It hurts me inside when I read stuff like this and remember you're 15 LMFAO so true Mitsubishi 3000GT (Old Build) Headunit: Pioneer 80PRS Frontstage: (2) McLaren Audio MLT-2 Tweeters & (4) PRV Audio MR Series Neo 6.5" Mids Substage: 4 15" Hybrid Subs - Tantric Motors & Sundown Softies Amps: Banda 2.4D Amp (Tweets), American Bass VFL 350.4 (Mids), and (2) Ampere 3800s Electrical :Singer 260A Alt & JY Power Lithium 2005 Chevy Colorado Ext Cab Headunit: Pioneer 80PRS Frontstage: 4 PRV 700Ti Tweets & 6 10" Delta Mids on 3000wrms Substage: 6 Fi BTL 18s in a 4th Order Walkthrough on 3 Wolfram 4500s Electrical: Singer "390" and JY Power My Official Feedback Thread
TeamHT
If I was in your position, I wouldn't run separate charging systems. And I definitely think 16 volts is rarely worth the trouble. I would work on a single alt setup with a battery bank to compensate if you really need. What amps are you using? Quote Tell me...does this smell like chloroform to you? zayres29
im not limited to 1 alt my truck is pretty common so alts are easy to get i will be running a SAZ3500 i talked to jacob today and he said they are stable to 19v so charging at 18.9 for a 16v system isnt a problem i have thought about running both alts for a single 12v system Quote Btw that was the first person. hdorre
What nominal impedance will the SAZ be wired to? I assume 1 ohm. Also, will you be competing at all? If not, 19v wouldn't be worth the hassle and money to me. TeamHT
I'm not talking about the amps being the issue, I only asked that to calculate draw. Quote Tell me...does this smell like chloroform to you?
zayres29
holy tripple post anyway... so your saying that going from 3500 watts at 12v to 5670 at 18.9 i wouldnt hear the difference? hdorre
Shit, I miscalculated...sorry I would only recommend you to run at 19v if you had a COMPLETE second electrical system (2nd alt and 16v batteries) and if you knew how to wire it (which either you or N8 probably do) Quote On 5/8/2011 at 7:38 PM, Kranny said: On 5/8/2011 at 7:35 PM, 'Maxim' said: It hurts me inside when I read stuff like this and remember you're 15 LMFAO so true Mitsubishi 3000GT (Old Build) Headunit: Pioneer 80PRS Frontstage: (2) McLaren Audio MLT-2 Tweeters & (4) PRV Audio MR Series Neo 6.5" Mids Substage: 4 15" Hybrid Subs - Tantric Motors & Sundown Softies Amps: Banda 2.4D Amp (Tweets), American Bass VFL 350.4 (Mids), and (2) Ampere 3800s Electrical :Singer 260A Alt & JY Power Lithium 2005 Chevy Colorado Ext Cab Headunit: Pioneer 80PRS Frontstage: 4 PRV 700Ti Tweets & 6 10" Delta Mids on 3000wrms Substage: 6 Fi BTL 18s in a 4th Order Walkthrough on 3 Wolfram 4500s Electrical: Singer "390" and JY Power My Official Feedback Thread
zayres29
yeah the only reason i was considering 16v batts because they are the same price or very close in price as the 14v Quote Btw that was the first person.
