But 2 12s in the right box would have a higher sustainable SPL given that it has more cone area and more coils to dissipate heat through, 1 15 in the right box would be able to hit lower notes a little bit better given the larger combined cone area on one cone. Assuming of course that it each option is tuned to the same frequency and both in the right sized boxes. 3 12s would obviously be the best option thou. lol. skittlesRgood Posted April 28, 2011 Report Share Posted April 28, 2011 you really cant say what setup would win for sure. last year i got within .1db of a guy with two 4k's on 16v (18v) using 18" XLs. i had my two 12" XLs and two 3k's on 12v (14v). several other people with 18"s i actually got a good deal louder than, off the same power or even half power. so you have the general rules of come area and power but in audio... shit doesnt always go by the book.
