Dual Amp Gain Troubleshoot

Monergist

Recommended Posts

I decided to get rid of my EQS, but now one of my monoblocks is louder than the other (both gains are at zero).

When the EQS was connected, both amps pushed both subs at the same level (I had ran the subwoofer preout from the HU to the input of the EQS, then an interconnect from the output of the EQS to the input of the first monoblock, then the last interconnect from the first monoblock output to the second monoblock's input). However, without the EQS, when I connect the preout from the head unit to the master amp, it is loud, but when I connect the second interconnect to the slave amp, the slave amp is significantly lower (again, both gains are at 0).

Things I've tried so far;

Switched between Copy/Master on both amps

Made both amps Master

Connected preout from HU to one amp at a time (when I connect one amp at a time, either amp plays fine)

Disconnected remote gain

Tried new RCAs

I really want to get rid of the EQS.. I'd hate to have to keep it just to be sure the subs both play at the same level!

I was thinking maybe my electrical is inadequate, but if that's the case, how could the amps through the EQS play both subs at the same level, while the two amps on their own struggle?

Any advice or suggestions?

Maybe your eq was line driving the signal (not sure what eq you have) the decreased voltage or increased length of how far the power has to travel could be effecting it.

My solution would be to try rca splitters which should evenly distribute your rca power

Thro a pair of y splitters on the output from the head unit.

Okay, seems like you're all unanimous about RCA voltage drop. And yes, BassJunkie, my Audio Control EQS does have a built in line driver. (no fuses, stingstreet)

If y-splitters evenly distribute the voltage from the HU preouts, will that take me to 2v per channel if I have 4v preouts? That would suck.

So the best option would be a line driver, right?
