kanes_disciple
OK, so heres the scenario. Me and a friend redid my system this past week and I now have alternator noise. I have done everything except running the source unit power directly to the battery, grounding the RCA's, and a power line noise filter. The amplifier is a brand new powerbass ASA 400.4. Note that the amps were in the trunk before and all the wires were ran together per the installer that put them in and I had no noise at that time, but that was the old amp that got 2 channels burnt up. We had to redo all the wiring due to a new box and amp rack and we got alternator noise for free. Any input would be greatly appreciated! bkolfo4
If you can unplug the RCAs from the amp and the noise goes away, then a PAC ground loop isolator is normally a quick easy fix if all else fails. . . kanes_disciple
Head unit is a Kenwood Excelon, RCA's go down the passenger side and the power wire plus remote wire go down the drivers side. The amp was first grounded to the Kinetic in the trunk and yesterday we moved the ground to a seatbelt bolt after grinding it to bare metal and made it under 18 inches and the noise is still there. After work today we r going to try a noise filter at the head unit first and if that don't work then we will try a ground loop isolater! Rebel4055
Seatbelt bolts are not good grounds. Ground to the strut tower(or run a ground to the front battery). Also check the RCA's and make sure the ends are not broken. Edited May 17, 2011 by Rebel4055 Quote Rest In Peace mother. kanes_disciple
Seatbelt bolts are not good grounds. Ground to the strut tower(or run a ground to the front battery). Also check the RCA's and make sure the ends are not broken. I know the seatbelt bolt isn't the best ground, but I had my main ground on a seatbelt bolt in my blazer and never had one problem with it. But ya we can try the strut tower for a ground, thanks!
