DannyB
Saturday I installed two sets of Polk Audio MM6501's in my Mega cab. I have a Kenwood KIV-700 and MB Quart 4.80 here's my problem I turn my HU up all the way and start turning up the gain on the 4.80 till it sounds good (about 1/8)but the tweeters are sawing my ears off so I switch the x-over from 0 to -3db and that helps a lot but they are still ear piercing. I have the frequencies at 150hz on the amp and HU I tried at 80hz no such luck. Some songs turned up all the way the tweeters start crackling they are flush mounted on the door panel. Anyone have any ideas on what the F is going on here? EclipseChris
My tweeters on my crossover are set at -6 and still overpower the mids. It kinda just happens like that. Over power the mids and you'll be alright. Quote i resolve to be a nicer moderator. Tercel build R.I.P. Eclipse build Old New V-Dub My feedback. Skullz
First problem is you having the H/U all the way up, you should have it at 70% and anything more there is a good chance it will start clipping depending on the H/U manufacturer. Now you can start to adjust the gain to match the output voltage of the H/U as best you if you don't have access to an o-scope. DannyB
How much does it cost to have a shop o-scope, I live about 3 hrs from the nearest and is it worth the time and $$ to have it done and would I notice the difference? Skullz
If the H/U has 2v pre-outs then you'll want to try and match that to the amp, if the amp has .2v to 6v adjustment then take a guess on where the 2v position would be and adjust to that and back it down a tad and that should be close enough without hard clipping it. The difference is not having a clipped signal ruining your sound and equipment. Most shops do not have scopes. If you find one that does, move closer to it. Quote i resolve to be a nicer moderator. Tercel build R.I.P. Eclipse build Old New V-Dub My feedback. korey_hofer
the problem is the tweeters and x overs, you can't turn them down enough to get them not to sound bright Quote previously known as wenn_du_weinst aka fucking internet coward supreme. DannyB
Thanks for all the info guys, I am sure I will get used to the full sound of the components over the full range Polks I had. I was hoping on maybe some breaking in time to balance out or something, I think I'll take the advice and back off the gain some cause that is where it seems to sound the best. I guess I expected a lot more outta the MM6501's they don't keep up with the two 12" I have at all. korey_hofer
you can help it by aiming tweeters in a different location try facing them at windshield if you can Quote previously known as wenn_du_weinst aka fucking internet coward supreme.
