JohnyDee21 Posted June 6, 2011 Report Posted June 6, 2011 Hi, I would like to know if anyone here has or knows someone with a 4 Door Pickup (mine is a Ram) who has a JL Audio 500/1 with a JL W7 Sub. I have the "bassline" settings from the JL Audio webpage, but they say: "you should start from here and tune the amp to your choice and car" but I have no idea how to tune my amp, sub or stereo. Does anyone have some good setting for this amp? I want loud/clean bass, running a ported box. Thanks.
trjohnst Posted June 6, 2011 Report Posted June 6, 2011 I have owned Jl 500/1s and some 10" w6's. I had 2 W6's on 1 500/1 and it was pretty loud until my 500/1 quit putting out as much power as it used to and would then go into protect mode because it couldnt handle the 10's anymore. But a 500/1 should be efficient for your w7, it is an amazing amp and if I were loaded, I would buy only JL. That amp and sub combined is a great combination and should suit you well. I dont know much about trucks and stereos in them but you should be good. If you want to set your gains correctly find someone with an o scope or pick up one of Steves distortion listeners when they come out. If you don't know go easy on the gain before your amp can't handle the sub like trjohnst Tune your amps sub sonic to/or just below the tuning of your box depending on the db slope and the low pass at 80hz Then sit back and enjoy the deebeez My builds: my caddy my 'hoe friends impala

If you don't know go easy on the gain before your amp can't handle the sub like trjohnst I have read alot of forums and posts on this page, and trust me I know all about the brands and good prices, I know AQ and Crescendo amps are way cheaper and have double or triple the power of a 500/1 and also that DC or Fi subs are cheaper, but honestly I have always wanted the JL amp/w7 combo, I think is the best looking sub out there, It's like a guilty pleasure for me. "I just wanted that combo, didn't care about power/price/watts" By the way, can a 500/1 blow a 10" w7 if I turn up some gain? considering is in a ported box tuned to 35hz.
