Got some more work done on my lunch break from work. Man I wish I would have been told to use a hot glue gun and not have to wait for the wood glue to dry. I thought that hot glue would not hold onto the wood very well but I was very wrong. I bought some glue that said on the box industrial strength for wood and plastic. Man can that glue hold up good. Never again will I use wood glue on small parts.

I finished the AC unit and got it framed into the consul. Now I just need to make a template of the under dash and then fiberglass the floor to start the fiber glassing.

You can use hot glue for temp stuff but long term it's not a good idea-unless you're gonna glass over it later anyway.

Hot glue can melt in hi-temp areas and release. I Hot glued a section on my rear deck w/ the grill insert and it melted out in the cali heat (100+all summer)

So as long as you plan on glassing over it it's ok I just wouldn't rely on it for long term hold.

I DID It.

Got my feet wet into the fiberglass world. I got out early from work and got to spend some time on the Fleetwood. I taped the floor which was not that bad. But then I used a painter’s nylon cover to keep everything clean. I knew I was going to drop something so I made sure it wasn't going to affect the car. I didn't put down any tin foil; don't know yet if that hurt me in the long run or not. Then I had to mix the resin. But the boat supply store only had a gallon of resin and a small bottle of MEPK. No instructions and no MEPK dispenser. So I searched and found out that you need 14 drops for every ounce. But I made my first batch with 20 ounces and no dispenser. A lot of drops lol. So I found one of my daughter medicine dropper and cleaned it out. No I will not give it back for her to use for medicine lol. I counted all the drops to get it around the right amount. There has to be an easier way?

What measurement does it take for an Ounce of resin?

I know drops can make allot of different sizes so how can you be more precise? Please give me a formula or a better way to measure that drops. . . . That’s just crazy. So then I took the fiberglass sheet that I bought and cut it to size so that I didn't have to cut it in small chunks. Don't know again if that will hurt me later.

Can you do that? Just cut a chunk of fiberglass to the size you need it and resin it; but obviously not in a vertical situation or with a lot of curves on the project. This was a flat surface with not that many curves.

Well I mixed the resin to the best that I could with out the right tools (MEPK Dispenser Bottle). Mixed it really good and then painted it on. Soaked it very well and saw the changing in color and then after I thought that it was very well soaked I added the next layer which I had precut also. Soaked that in also and let it dry.

It was good. No problem except that floor covering was too light and kept blowing in the wind and making it hard to get to in some places. But one time it blew and I didn’t have any protection on my arms and I didn’t really notice that some resin fell on me. After a while it started to react to the hardener and got supper hot. THEN I NOTICED lol. Damn that stuff gets hot. That’s why I always see pictures of people doing fiberglass in 100 degree sun with long sleeves and paints on.

All in all I think it went good and tomorrow I will try to get it to separate from the tyranny hump.

Thanks everyone for all the help so far. I know when I need to rap the consul I will have more questions. Also thanks to Steve Madde for making the forum to help out everyone with the fiberglass world. Here are the pictures.

check out the sticky at the top of this section about mixing hardener..i believe u will find ur answers there...

ohh...and looks good man!

^^Beat me to it..I was sleepin.

There is such info in a sticky as well as on the netif you run a search for it.

General rule of thumb is 15-45drops of MEKp depending on: Brand of resin, ambient temp, how long you NEED BEFORE it's starts to setup and get hard (i.e. work time), angle of application (like you mentioned about a vertical side, you don't wanna have to hold it there forever so mixing a little "hotter" would speed it up)

Nice lookin base so far.

Using ONE piece of material instead of many smaller ones will not hurt you in THIS case, however in an application where MAXIMUM STRENGTH or rigidity is needed like in an enclosure, the more OVERLAPPING of smaller pieces you have the stronger the end product will be.

You might wanna keep some acetone handy for those lil spots where the resin gets away from you or slops on ur wrist/fore-arms...Acetone isnt the best for your skin/health but it will get the resin off.

Keep up the good lookin progress and if you have another Q like the one about the MEKp, post it here, most of us are 24-7 forum junkies.
