A 85sqin port in a 3.5cuft box will take up hella room and leave you with an f3 very close to tuning Making the box bigger gives you a smaller gross vol. Weird huh, and dumps the f3 Wayyyyy to many of you guys dont know wtf the f3 is. fecupe2001 Posted July 9, 2011 Report Share Posted July 9, 2011 (edited) This might be a stupid comment right now, but i´m not afraid of saying the things i´ve learned with a lot of testings in the last couple of years, maybe i´m wrong since i haven´t read this anywhere but the testing showed me that, a sub with a low QTS (0.29) and big VAS(around 2.5 c/f) parameters like this one, should play very nice on a big box,specially if he´s looking to play the lows very nice, that´s where the lovely f3 comes in play, a 1.5 c/f box sounds stupid small for this sub if you ask me, , i mean, that´s what i use for a piece of shit pioneer champion (400 watts sub) on a regular power, and yes, i get loud with them, but once again, i might be wrong so i´m all ears RAY!!!!!!! So that being said, im building a box for a 12" lvl 5 and was shooting for around 1.6 net...am I WAY off then and should be shooting more towards 2.0? Sorry to thread jack op... tonedeaf Posted July 9, 2011 Report Share Posted July 9, 2011 Also, F3 of a woofer is: F3 means the point at which the subwoofer is -3 dB down (were it's response starts dropping off basically). So the bigger the box, the lower it drops the F3, meaning the subs lower frequency response is better. Am I TOTALLY off or do I have some kind of understanding?
