Wanna Be 100% Sure

Recommended Posts

I'm going to be building my box this weekend and I want to make sure it's 100% good. It's for two 12'' DC XLs powered by a DC 5k.

Here are the specs with design:

The amps won't be located there any more.

You might need bracing but besides that the numbers look ok.

The answer is no! The proper internal cube recommendation for your subs is 1.2 to 1.5 per driver. Any bigger and you'll loose control especially with power. These are what both Rusty and Thor recommend. That said I began with a box that was 3.8 cubes and have reduced it down to near 3 prior to building another starting at 3 cubes.

You're going to want to brace the baffle at the very least. That's a big panel.

I'm not saying this is the case, but I do want to ask more knowledgeable people a more specific question using your design.

I know placing subwoofers next to a port can cause loading and cooling issues. What I don't know is what criteria would need to be met for this to be a problem. Would this box encounter those kinds of issues since The right-most sub is near the port? OR would it only be an issue if the port opening is on the same axis as the subwoofers themselves?

You may be offended by the above. Don't take it personally, I'm just abrasive.

What would be a typical displacement for bracing? the inside of the box is 12.75'' tall.
