Why would my DVD player stop working?

Recommended Posts

I had my DVD player working yesterday. Today i Hooked up my amp's and pluged in the RCA's to the deck. That is the only thing that changed. Now my DVD player wont work while driving. I am assuming it has something to do with the sequence of stuff being booted up by the remote wire? Do you think i need to run remote wire from Amps to the relay too?

Yes you need to have a remote wire hooked up to the relay. The relay needs to click on AFTER the headunit is powered up, if it isnt then it knows you are fucking with the bypass and will stop you dead in your tracks.

If you wired up the relay with a constant +12v power going, then this means that the relay is always engaged which in turn means your grounding the brake sense wire completely which will not work. You can do it two ways (see video for one way) or to make it a cheap ass way, simply go to radioshack and get a 2 way toggle switch (just on and off positions) connect one end of the switch to the ground where you put your headunit ground on the body panel, then the other connector will be that parking brake sense wire. When you flip the switch AFTER the radio has powered on and has video, it will disable the bypass lockout and you can view videos at anytime.

The problem with using a simple 2 way toggle switch is that you MUST wait for the radio to boot up first before you can flip that switch to play video. You also MUST perform this changing of the switch from on to off (or vice versa) whenever you turn the radio on and off which is a total pain in the ass. I always do the relay as its very simple and straight forward. If you get stuck i can help guide you through it but the video i have near the end will help you out greatly.

For how he worded the first post it doesnt sound like the relay was wired up correctly. Im not sure if he applied a constant 12v to the relay to engage it all the time or if it was an accessory switch but it MUST be that remote wire that turns it on because it needs to engage after the radio is up and functional for it to bypass the video.
