burzendowski
Does the size of an enclosure have an effect on subwoofer cooling? Does a smaller vented box cool better the same or less than a larger vented box? Daily enclosure speaking. From the past few boxes ive had seems that my subs take longer to get stinky in a larger vented box, my newest box is small compared to the other and the coils seem to heat up quicker. korey_hofer
on a very minute scale, other factors are more important when box size comes to it. ALPINE408
with smaller boxes and little power the subs wont move as much and yes that effects cooling a lot Quote Have you ever had your woofers blown?
nismo923
Wouldn't your coils getting warm be a sign of a clipped signal being sent to the woofer? Try setting your gains properly and see if the issue still persists. Quote "If you're new. Stay away from 4000 watts please." C-Fizzy

Decaf
The more u control the cone movement with small volume the less it moves. A sub cools by moving so yes it matters, far more than a minute amount Playing at tuning all the time is also something that can cause added heat since in a ported box the sub moves the least at tuning Just say no to korey hofer
chunt33
But at lower volume, the sub is seeing less power, so it will not be getting as hot???

ALPINE408
But at lower volume, the sub is seeing less power, so it will not be getting as hot??? a sub cools itslf by moving period!!!! it needs to move lower... volume does give you less current draw and thd that does cause less heat but then the sub is not cooling itself by moving ether so it can get just as hot with low volumes and then again it might not get hot at all depends on the box subs are box dependent Edited August 5, 2011 by Team Bassick (ALPINE) Quote Have you ever had your woofers blown? chunt33
If I am running 200 watts to each of my 9512s, the 3" coils will not be getting warm, because they have the ability to dissipate the little bit of heat there is. As power increases so does heat, but the coils stay cool because the sub is moving more. The box does affect cooling due to different impedance profiles as well as the tuning of the box itself.
