VIP3R Posted August 8, 2011 Report Posted August 8, 2011 Ok here is my story: This amp originally had a problem where it started cutting out randomly or "toning down" on intensity. Sometimes a few turning on/off fixed it back up. It finally kept doing this and then sometimes wouldn't work at all. It finally took a crap and fried one day. Sent it back to kicker, they fixed it up and sent it back. The weird thing was the gain was set properly. Had good electrical. Good ground, etc. Subs wired correctly and at the proper ohm level. (trust me im not a total noob haha)Never quite understood it. So i did my new install with my 2 sa-10s..installed the amp and everything ran perfect for the few weeks I have had them. BUT the other day, started my truck and NO bass. Like wtf. Now its doing this less intensity or cutting out not working bullshit. I really do not understand it. Its getting proper voltage. Turn on lead voltage is fine. The amp turns on fine. No protect light. Nothing. Only just gets really hot for HARDLY even playing it. Its almost like it turns on and its hot. Weird. So now I am wondering how reliable this amp is? Is it just a faulty pos? Or could my subwoofer output on my headunit be to blame? My current infinity amp for my mids/highs has been on the same headunit and since day one has worked FLAWLESS. Sure it got hot, but damn worked fine! This kicker amp has been my only issue.. Any suggestions? Idk if this amp is dying again or what...but if it is im getting a new amp that I can fit under my seat. unfortunately that means new wiring and its unfortunate as well that my subs are wired at 2 ohms Quote 2 Sundown Audio SA-10s Box built by Speed of Sound Kicker 1500.1 Infinity Ref 475a Rockford Fosgate T1682c 6x8s Pioneer Premier DEH-510UB XS Power D6500 Stock 130amp Alt Big 3 Build Log
Purplehaze Posted August 8, 2011 Report Posted August 8, 2011 I'm sorry to hear about your problems. It sounds like the amp is just a pos, to be honest. But that is something you dont hear a lot about, Kicker amps being bad. Usually, there amps are their best product. But, since your speakers are at a 2 ohm load, you may have to stay w/a Kicker amp. I'd try to send it back again, this time tell them not to send it back unless it's really fixed. And btw, this post is post #500 for me, and they were all done the rt way! Woohoo! Woohoo! thats really what I am thinking. Probably just a pos. Ya I do not have too many options. Rockford 1500 cp looks nice. but shit $500!? Do you think the headunit would have anything related? HazeGrey75 Posted August 8, 2011 Report Posted August 8, 2011 I had my 06ZX1500 running great up until two weeks ago, it worked fine when I sold it.. They are China made but pretty good QA Quote

Do you think the headunit would have anything related? It could be, but I doubt it. Especially if it is getting hot. That most likely has nothing to do w/the hu. Sounds like you just got a bad apple And the RF amps are really nice, but if I'm not mistaken, don't they want to be ran at 1 ohm? So far, Kicker is the only one I have found that makes their amps peak at 2 ohm. But I'd say there is someone else, I'm just not aware of them. 6berry Posted August 9, 2011 Report Posted August 9, 2011 if you want to test to make sure it not the headunit just get an rca to 3.5 mm headphone jack and hook an ipod directly to the input of the amp. if it plays without problems then its another problem down the line Quote 1999 Audi A4 1.8T::: 4 - DC Level 3 10's in a 4th order Rockford P6002 on Subs for now (3-3.5k coming eventually) MB Quart ONX4.60 for Mids and Highs Boston S50 Components in Front Boston S65 Coaxials in Rear 40 Sq Ft of Second Skin Damplifier Build Thread UBL 1948 Plymouth
VIP3R Posted August 9, 2011 Author Report Posted August 9, 2011 (edited) if you want to test to make sure it not the headunit just get an rca to 3.5 mm headphone jack and hook an ipod directly to the input of the amp. if it plays without problems then its another problem down the line so take a rca to 3.5 in place of the rca from the headunit that would go into the sub amp and then what with the ipod? oh wait.. are you saying take the ipod.. plug in the 3.5 into it...then plug the rca from the 3.5 into the sub amp and test to see if it plays?
