Speaker Impedance?

I was pondering on speakers today and I ran into this question. There are usually two actual speakers for a component set or 2 way speaker. So is the impedance of the cone on the driver and tweeter actually 8 ohms when separated, so that is a 4 ohm impedance going to the amp? Or 4ohms per speaker for a 2 ohm set. Also, how is the wattage divided? Somehow I don't think a small 1" tweeter would take 100w as well as a 6.5" driver would.

Then it gets more complicated. What about those pointless 3, 4, 5, and 6 way speakers?

But if the driver and tweeter were both 4 ohms, wouldn't that be two 4 ohm speakers going to your amp channel? Which would drop to 2 ohms?

I've always wondered that!

I was told that somewhere in the crossover, there some thing make the output impedance 4 ohms, but I don't know how truthful the source is.

the crossover causes the impedance of the mid to increase as the frequency increases.

and increase as the frequency to the tweeter decreases.

so the mid might have a nominal impedance of 4ohm, same for the tweeter, but at 4khz, the impedance of the mid might be 16ohm, while the impedance of the tweeter might be 6ohm, meaning the overall impedance is still 4ohm.

its all to do with capacitance and inductance.
