Amp gets very very hot! (Olympus and SSD 18")

Hey!

(first: Sorry for my english.)

I`m building up my system for a couple of days and today I´ve tested it the first time.

Details of the system:

- 35mm² cable

- gel battery 40Ah and 65Ah car battery

- 10mm² speakerwire

- 2x 100A fuses

- Fi Audio SSD 18

- Hifonics Olympus

The problem is my amp gets very very hot just after one minute.(about 80°C) The Fi has 2x 400w RMS @ 2x 2Ohms an my Olympus has 4x 250w RMS @ 1Ohm. I bridged it to 2x 500w @ 2Ohms.

To avoid clipping I put both channels at 28V @ 50Hz [28V = sqrt(400W X 2 ohms)].

So the amp must be 200w rms underpowerd and the speaker should be fine.(all measurements were made with running motor for stable voltage)

My Radio gives a clear signal and my Amp also. Everything works fine but the heat is just unnormal. The Amp is not under something, it layes open im my trunk.

I hope someone can help me.

Is your ground solid to clean metal?

Recheck your wiring sub to amp.

Yes, I took the screw that nomaly holds the spare wheel.(spare wheel isn`t inside anymore) I think it should be a good ground. Can I measure it somehow?

i had a friend come by who had the same problem and i took the volt tester to it and his batt said 13.6 when the car way on but when it hit the amp it was seeing 7.2 volts because he had grounded it to the spare tire bolt. not a bad issue to fix man just scrap the paint and primer off another spot and ground it there...or run it straight to the frame scrap the frame bear and ground it there or ground it to the batt if you have one back there (i didnt understand if the 45 or 65 amp hour batt was in back but if there is on ground it there)

thanks for your reply. The 65Ah is in the front and the 40Ah is in the back. I measured directly at the amp and got 13,8V- 13,2V under load. Could it be that the amp is defective, but still works fine? =D

The voice coil is dual 2ohm ?

So the sub is 2- 2ohm loads?

I noticed you said you were bridging a 2ohm load.

Can you re-explain that for us.

Hey,

the Subwoofer is a dualvoicecoil.(2 coils with each 2ohms) The amp has 4x 250w rms @ 1 ohm and I bridged it to 2x 500w rms @ 2Ohms. Each channel runns one coil at 2ohms.

very possible that would make a ton of sense as well

let us know how you wired it and what ohm your sub is
