Phoenix Gold Oz Posted September 20, 2012 Author Report Posted September 20, 2012 Question for you, how do the speakers go in that mount you have made for them attached to the side of the box being that they arent "free to air" any more? Probably hard to tell given the size of the over all build, but just interested on the effect of car speakers in a pod like that..? To be honest they are stupidly loud. We could only fit 5-1/4" and they are only 40w RMS but they sure get loud. Of course there is pretty much no midbass from them at all, only mids and highs, we have them crossed over quite high at 160Hz and use a -18dB/oct slope, this way we know they are protected even if someone gets a bit happy with the volume knob at a show. At the moment we are running a total of 20 (10pr) of them, but 4 of them (2pr) have been in the roof pod behind the front seats. In the update these 2pr will move to the side doors to put a little bit more volume outside of the car. We're also running 8 (4pr) of 6-1/2" splits in the front doors which help to get even more vocals outside of the car, but even they are crossed over at 100Hz using a -12dB/Oct slope. The original build concept for this car was for it to be a Low End Bass Monster, but still have it be able to play ANY music Loudly & Cleanly. Since you're from Australia you'll know that when we go to SummerNats or Deni Ute Muster, or Bright Rod Run... We can't be blasting DubStep -- We crank AC/DC, Cold Chisel, Dire Straights and all the Rock Classics. Of course the AudioControl EPIC160 makes sure we get some added bottom end in those songs Cheers, Scott

Phoenix Gold Oz Posted September 23, 2012 Author Report Posted September 23, 2012 Hi All, Well we had a fairly productive day, we got the entire sub box removed. Thankfully we had origianlly made this as fully removable, no pieces are actually attached to the vehicle permanently, and all panels are just sealed together with weather stripping and a bit of silicone. The new build will utilise the entire outer shell of the box, but nothing else. At that point we will permanently connect all panels and fibreglass everything. So here's some pics of the tear down: It started raining, so good thing we had some free 'Storage' space LOL

We should get some work in during the week cleaning up the wiring and prepping things for the new lighting system, new location for the 4ch amps and the new amplifier status panel. Cheers, Scott

Phoenix Gold Oz Posted October 7, 2012 Author Report Posted October 7, 2012 Well it's been a little while since I posted updates...we've been working on cutting out the baffles for the top and bottom boxes. All I can say is that we built these damn things STRONG! It's been an absolute pain in the @$$ getting these things gutted. Still one more day of sanding to smooth out the transitions of the side and rear walls into the top box, then we can start re-assembling it in the car. From there we want to glass up all the joints and smooth everything out before we start on the new baffles. Off to Hong Kong this week so more updates in a couple weeks. Cheers, Scott

It seems they have been following our little Astra and wanted to be an even BIGGER part of the Rebuild!!! Let's just say it's going to be BIG! <cough>24kw<cough> So excited to get this thing happening now...more progress this weekend!
