Recommended Posts

ok, so i have never competed at an event before, although i have attended a few. in about 3 weeks there is an event about 10 miles from me that i think i want to go to(mostly just to see where im at, no hopes of winning anything yet), and im mostly curious about what class ill be put in. i have read through the rulebook and think i know, but looking for some expereinced advice. i have 2 runs of 1/0 to the rear, each having a 300 amp fuse. i have 2 totals batteries, the main kinetik 1800 and a 2400 in the rear. i run 2 dd 3512's in a ported box that fires up through the rear deck. any and all help is appreciated

Fuse on the amp is what matters.

Thanks ray, is it only the subwoofer amp or all amps?

if you cut anything on your rear deck itll automatically put you in mod. if not i think you can do street.

now the fusing is only for your sub amp and i recommend testing your amp to see what is the smallest fuse you can use to get a good 3-4 second burp

with 2 12s you have 226 sq inches of cone which means in any 1 class you can have 30 amps of fusing. 2 class would be 70 amps of fusing. 3 class is 170

depending on your amps i think you can get a nice burp out of a 30 amp fuse

In general, its pretty safe to say that whatever your amp draw should be, you can likely get a burp on a fuse rated for half or 1/3 of that. Some people fuse way down, but in general, 1/2 or 1/3 is pretty safe guess. For example, if your running a 1000w amp with in theory a 100a draw, you can pretty easily fuse down to 30-50a. You can go alot further if you are willing to screw around with fuses

Cool, thanks for all the information guys. I run a sundown 3000 as my sub amp so I'll play around with it over the next couple of weeks to see what I can get away with

Should hang on a 70 for a burp

you could fuse up to 75a with 2 12s and be as2/s2/m2.. you could also run 2 fuses to give you added cooling area on the filament, like a 40a and a 30a

i know a guy that can burp two sundown 3ks on like 10 or 20 amps of fusing

but then again he is known as the "fuse fairy" lol

go buy some fuses, different types and brands, and do a couple burps. see which one delivers your best score.

like i said your min fusing is 30 so get some of those first and see if you can get a good 3-4 seconds out of it before it blows. if you can then play in the 1 class. itll give you a better chance to win. especially if you get stuck in mod
