nicholask1993 Posted August 28, 2011 Report Posted August 28, 2011 I designed my box using the RE Calculator and it says that my box is going to be tuned to 35hz. But when I put the same dimensions and everything into Torres it says that my box is going to be tuned to 40hz. Here are the specs: Width - 32" Height - 13.5" Depth - 20" Port Height - 12" Port Width - 3.5" Port Length - 15.75" This is for two 12" subs so I'm estimating around .2 displacement for both. I plan on gluing the box when I get home from work tonight and if I had to it would be easy for me to cut some more wood to make the port longer. Anyone know what my box is going to be tuned to or why the calculators are giving me different information?
727Designs Posted August 28, 2011 Report Posted August 28, 2011 3.18 net, 39.46hz, 13.21in^2 per according to Torres with your measurements. -Zach-2010 Toyota TundraFull Hybrid Audio SQ 7" BDS on 37's 2000 Ford Expedition 160+ dB Green Turd -SOLD-
nicholask1993 Posted August 28, 2011 Author Report Posted August 28, 2011 Any idea why it's different when using the RE Calculator? Guess I'm going to have to make the port longer...
727Designs Posted August 28, 2011 Report Posted August 28, 2011 RE calculator doesn't figure for common port walls, or sub displacement would be my best guess. -Zach-2010 Toyota TundraFull Hybrid Audio SQ 7" BDS on 37's 2000 Ford Expedition 160+ dB Green Turd -SOLD-
nicholask1993 Posted August 28, 2011 Author Report Posted August 28, 2011 Hmm... Wish I would have used Torres to design the box. Guess that's what I get for not wanting to reboot into windows on my MacBook. At least I can fix it... Mind bringing some numbers to see how much I would need to add to get tune to 35hz and 30hz. I'm at work...
bkolfo4 Posted August 28, 2011 Report Posted August 28, 2011 Both those calcs continually make mistakes. Assuming .2 for driver displacement, that box is 3.18 cuft, but it is tuned to 36.2 Hz. The port is 20" long, not 15.75", because the opening inside the box is 3.5" wide, so the corner adds length. You could add a 5" piece along the back. Leaves just over 3 cuft tuned to 34 Hz. nicholask1993 Posted August 28, 2011 Author Report Posted August 28, 2011 Adding the piece to the back doesn't change how the corner adds to port length right?
bkolfo4 Posted August 28, 2011 Report Posted August 28, 2011 Not since the opening was already the same width as port. It just subtracts from the net volume. Since the box is already built, I just guessed a length, calculated the net volume, and determined the port tuning. Worked out great.
