Help with LEDs play to beat of music

Recommended Posts

I have installed LED lights in the footwells of mine and a few of my friends' cars. We have all just used a simple on/off switch but I would like it to play to the bass. After reading the reviews on some vibration detectors, Ive scratched that idea out since my system is fairly loud. My amplifier is 1500 Watts so I can't hook them up to it. Te only idea I have come up with is buying a really cheap and weak amplifier from ebay or some place, run an RCA from my sub amp to the little amp, minimize the little amps output power, and run the LEDs to the speaker connections. Will this work? Is there a better way? Please help. Thanks.

You can't hook up LED's to an amp through the speaker input, and have it flash to the music.

The best thing to do is buy something like that^^.

I always wondered how this worked but never looked into it. When trying to understand it I assumed it has to be in some sort of active setup with some sort of logic chip analyzing the freq's of the music. For example, if the output freq was say 30-60 hz the led would be powered etc. That device doesn't explain it, but I just figured that's how it worked.

I have one of those and its hooked upto the neons under my truck too.

How it works is the button on the left activates the sound sensitive part You can turn it on so it flashes to music or you can turn them on solid. Them middle knob lets you adjust it to were you want it to pick up the sound. Its not so much you tune it to a certain freq I think its more due to the vibrations that sets off the flasher. The button on the right is just a basic on off switch.
