bmph8er Posted September 8, 2011 Report Posted September 8, 2011 im going to be running 2 stock alts. (mostly cuz its free) and i was wondering if this was enuff belt wrap to keep it from slipping. i figured a stock 85 amp alt should be good. that do you guys think ignore all the crap u see wrong with the 2.8 i just got the truck from someone who didnt know how to work on stuff 2001 gmc seirra 5.3 auto 3.73 locked rear, long tube headers, offroad y pipe, duals, cai, black bear tune, 2/4 drop, 22s, rockford fosgate mods and highs and 4 ab hd 15s and a ab 750.1 1995 civic 1.5 auto slower then hell, dropped on coil overs, ex hub caps, 2 12 trunk, have 450 bucks in the car and gets 35 mpg 1992 s10 being bagged, shaved, and small stereo. right now a pile of parts

bmph8er Posted September 8, 2011 Author Report Posted September 8, 2011 hmmm ill have to try and see what happens. im hoping since its only a 85 amp alt it may not have tthhaatt much drag. i guess if it does slip i can always change it. i dont actually have a big stereo or anything so there shouldnt be a large draw on the alts. i only really did it for the hell of it and make sure my 2 viair 444s have enuff voltage. so max drag is prolly 55 or 60 amp plus truck. so i hope itll work ill keep my fingers crossed lol 2001 gmc seirra 5.3 auto 3.73 locked rear, long tube headers, offroad y pipe, duals, cai, black bear tune, 2/4 drop, 22s, rockford fosgate mods and highs and 4 ab hd 15s and a ab 750.1 1995 civic 1.5 auto slower then hell, dropped on coil overs, ex hub caps, 2 12 trunk, have 450 bucks in the car and gets 35 mpg 1992 s10 being bagged, shaved, and small stereo. right now a pile of parts
techforce Posted September 8, 2011 Report Posted September 8, 2011 Being those are stock and it does not take much to produce 80 amps... It MIGHT be ok as long as the belt is soft... You might need a lil belt dressing to keep the belt soft... N8... I think that because the wrap on the one is so long, (the tensioner so far away) that the belt stretches and it slips... (The other needs more wrap period) but, you gotta make use of what room you got tho...

techforce Posted September 8, 2011 Report Posted September 8, 2011 Yeah, it is possible that when it shifts, it slips, when the RPMs and the load on the engine change, so does the tension on the tensioner...
